Sitting here this afternoon, dealing with some potentially devastating news of a medical nature, when I start thinking about some things to do with this site to take my mind off of it.
Frankly -- and I say this with the greatest of respect -- it looks like a few of the people that used to help out with the site by way of moderation have wandered off into more appealing territory.
As primarily a Mac user now, I can't blame them at all, but I'm left with the unenviable position of needing a little active help with keeping the site up to date. Not so much with the forums because the new tools for reporting posts ROCK... Everyone can play moderator with only a couple of hammer wielding button pushers actively keeping people in line.
What I'm finding is that if this site is going to flourish -- let alone survive -- I need a few active people in the community with a good English vocab and some time to spare;
---------------------------
Position 1 : Finder of Trendy knowledge.
No matter how easy we make it, no one seems interested in posting news to the site. This isn't new to the big switch, but something that I think we could do bettter.
If you have a good rep, good writing skills, and a little free time on your hand where you're checking Amiga sites anyway, would you mind posting news items for us?
Number needed : as many volunteers as we can get.
What do you get? : VIP status and a user rank of "News Reporter" to go along with it.
How do I get the gig? : Let me know you're interested.
---------------------------
Position 2: Seeker of Internet knowledge
Like above, we need a bit of help scouring Google for new, valid, and active Amiga-oriented links to add to our reconstituted Links directory. All this really entails is submitting a new Amiga site whenever you find something new or interesting.
Number needed : as many volunteers as we can get.
What do you get? : VIP status and a user rank of "Links Moderator" (or somesuch) to go along with it.
How do I get the gig? : Let me know you're interested.

Does the trendy news bit have to be amiga specific?
Reason I ask is that I do have a whole load of free time, but in all honesty I don't much follow the current amiga scene. I haz interbutt connection and access a lot of websites that deal with IT and more generalised tech issues...
Give us a shout if you think that might fit in with what you're after

"does it have to be Amiga specific?"
Generally speaking, yes, but if it is "of interest" to Amiga users, then cool too. I'm just talking about maybe "if you go to an Amiga site (take for example Cloanto.com) and see a press release, please post it here for us".
WAAAAAAY back when the site was much more focused on news, and I had an easy job, it was simple to sit and hit all the Amiga news sites daily. Life is funny in that it's no longer that easy to do but on the other hand, unlike all those years ago, we now have 1000+ regular users who don't think to lend a hand in that way.
All I'm asking for is that people think about it when they're doing the rounds.

I hope the potential isn't realised.

Same. Best wishes for you.

Damn it. I thought this thread was about horses. What a gyp.
(by the way, I have led horses to water and it's pretty damn easy... especially if they're thirsty)

Thanks everyone for your concern. I have a doctor's appointment Monday afternoon and should know more then. I just loathe waiting.

Hi,
@Wayne
Good Luck on this event, I know about the waiting had to wait 3 days for my appointment with the Dentist, hate them because I feel like a fish on a hook.
Liked your old avatar better, didn't have any of that apple nonsense on there. Times sure have changed Apple insignias on an Amiga site, and not only that an apple insginia being displayed by the Amiga Webmaster himself.
GOOD GREIF

@wayne: good luck! sure everyone means that. we need you well to run this best community site ever!

@wayne
All the best, hope everything turns out OK and you are drinking celebratory brews in no time. :-)
I'll certainly submit any cool Amiga links I come across.
-
Well, I always do keep Amiga.org in mind for posting news. But, the fact of it is, I just don't stumble across much Amiga news, anymore. The few articles I do spot, are usually already posted here by someone. I think the lack of news updates may be due to the lack of news happening.
Anyhow, the more important thing is the health situation. I hope all turns out well for you.

Yes, Wayne, I hope everything turns out OK on Monday.

Depending what the medical issue is, I might be able to offer some advice. Best of luck regardless.

Never made any bones about the fact that real life pulled me towards a different machine for daily/professional use.
If Amiga Inc (or anyone else for that matter) had pulled their heads out of their asses and "pulled an Apple" when I suggested it (IN 2000! -- which, btw, got me kicked out of the "inner circle" and started my spiral towards the dark side), we'd all be running 2Ghz Amiga OS on commodity hardware.
Instead, they went with a platform that they KNEW was dead from the beginning because someone told them that they could have OS 4 on PPC completed within a year.. That was early 2000.
Look where we are now... Hanging out with our classic Amigas watching the company calling themselves "Amiga" half-assedly try to hawk sub-par cellphone games to an audience who all bought iPhones instead. Note to any AA developers reading this, I mean no slight against you, just the stupidity of AI working themselves into the corner of competing against the universally conquering Mac App Store.
Brilliant.
Please don't respond. I'm sorry. I know I'm trolling. Sorry. Not trying to stir the pot. Just have a migraine, and I'm frustrated over what could have been (but is too late now).
It's amazing what comes flooding back when you suddenly realize that the migraine headaches you've been suffering for a while now are, in fact, diabetic sugar imbalances in the blood stream.
For now, the avatar stays as a sign of protest over the stupidity we've experienced.. Namaste
