Title: Help needed reviving A600
Post by: Karlos on June 01, 2009, 02:37:12 PM
Hi,

A few months ago, I brought my A600 from the old family home. At some point, it stopped working and I cannibalised it for spares. Or more specifically, I stole the floppy drive to replace one in an A1200

The thing is, this was the first Amiga I actually owned. There is quite a lot of sentimental feeling towards it, it was an 18th birthday present from my recently departed mum. I'd really like to get it working again, if possible.

I'm not entirely sure what malaise has befallen it, really. Examining the insides, I can see no evidence of leaked caps, no cracked solder joints or traces. Everything socketed seems to be seated just fine. Yet, there's no activity of any kind when attached to a PSU. I've tried it on several.

What else should I be looking for, here?

What are the symptoms ?

What happens when you try powering her up, anything ?

Nothing whatsoever. Even the power LED remains dark.

No power led  sounds terminal.

Its not that the led has gone is it.  Does anything get warm to the touch inside after awhile.

No screen output ?

Nope, no screen output. Nada. I can't say for sure if anything gets warm, I'll need to check. I've previously put 5v through each of the LED board connector pins and they all work fine.

The thing is, it has really been this way for a long time. It's one of the reasons I pinched the floppy.

Probably a bad cap - that's the problem usually.
I presume you've tried using a known good PSU?

Sure, I tried several known good ones.

I suspect I'll have to replace the caps. They are all 18 years old by now anyway :)

If I can't revive it at all I might take you up on that.

Well let me know.  It does boot.  Bought it off epay on a whim and have never used it.
