Title: converting mods to mods
Post by: sir_inferno on October 26, 2003, 12:47:17 PM
the world is digitalising (did i spell that right?) and so am i :-) I've got loads of mods, official and ones by mates on my amiga. Now although most amiga files are in this format: "name"."extension" (without the " things) but for mods its:   mod.horizons edge (or watever) but anyway...

I took some pc floppies, stuck the holes over with sellotape (did i spell THAT right?) and then got all of the over to my pc. Windows automaticall thought that the names, being last in the file, were the extension, but that wasn't much of a problem anyway, it just turned it all into things like mod.hor but that ain't a problem...

But i can't play it, which is a problem  :-(
Firstly i just thought cause it was the wrong way round, so when i selected my horizons edge mod (as an example) i saw mod and then windows said it was a HOR file... I renamed it to hor.mod, but then when i shoved it in winamp, it didn't work...

i probably need some kind of a converter (did i spell that right?), but which one?

also seeing i got all the mods onto windows already, i'd appreciated if the converter was for windows rather than amiga... but if there are no other solutions...  :-)

Get DeliPlayer here. (http://www.deliplayer.com/)

That plays most major Amiga formats (it was originally an Amiga program.)

Edit: Hang on, that was DeliTracker on the Amiga... I still remember thinking they were connected somehow though...

Erm... you said in your previous post that Winamp wouldn't play the mods when you renamed them to *.mod ? That suggests to me that Winamp won't play Amiga mods. It's really going to be easier to keep them in their current format and play them with Deliplayer.

As for converting into mp3 format - urgh! Not only will this have an adverse effect on the sound quality, but the files themselves will be about 10-20 times larger for an average module.

There's really no reason to convert Protracker mods into any other format on Windows. Even WinAmp should be able to play all the usual Sound/Protracker derivatives. The default mod plugin that comes with the standard installation is ####e, however. I suggest you get SurfSmurf's oldsk00l plugin instead.

Alternatively, Deliplayer and ModPlug Player provide a more accurate playback. Deliplayer also has support for a large number of the more "exotic" Amiga formats.

Oh, and Deliplayer is indeed the Windows-version of the now dead DeliTracker.

There is also Unix Amiga Delitracker Emulator (http://uade.ton.tut.fi/).

It builds for various systems, including MorphOS (http://www.iki.fi/sintonen/uade/).
