A lot of good programs originated from bedroom coding.
Good luck with your project. :-)

let me knoow more , i am also into bedroom talents :D
(no not for sex :D)

Well, good luck with the project.
Let's face it: the vast majority of AmigaOS and MorphOS programs will be written by "bedroom programmers" for years to come. The just isn't enough of a user base to support anything but the tiniest of commercial development bases.
That's not the problem. The problem is a lack of development tools. Compare what is available as a whole on the Amiga platforms to what comes for free on most Linux distros and you get a very sobering idea of how much improvement is needed.

There are some categories that need improvements (debugger and gui builder come to mind) but I don't agree that it is predominantly development tools or the lack thereof that hinders development. At least I hope so, being somewhat involved in that area with GoldED. I find these issues more problematic:
- lack of developers
- lack of good documentation
- lack of basic technologies in the OS (html, xml, unicode, regexp etc)
- fragmented approach to user interfaces
- dated APIs (gfx library, dos)
As to development tools, what I personally miss most is a first class object-oriented point-click-paint user interface builder and resource editor for dialogs, menus, catalogs, bitmaps etc.

hmmm 5:25 nearly time for neighbours

Enough tools available to do some serious programmation.
Some "professional" developers are working with less.
A single step source level debugger could come in handy.
A native Oberon compiler is missing though and some other
Wirth languages could be
useful.
MorphEd could be a bit less cpu straining.

Why everybody laugh with that? What does it mean? (is he talking about the australian soap opera?)
(xex re Bodie_CI5 gia 3iga moy kai mena :P)
Anyway, hope he makes also an AmigaOS 4.0 native version of that game :-)

@Dietmar
Just to clarify my previous statement about a lack of development tools:
I'm not referring to existing tools like GoldED, nor am I making a comment on its quality.
However, like you mentioned yourself, there are no decent interface builders, barely any support for anything except C/C++, no recent port of Python, no binding to native APIs (MUI & ReAction) for either Python or Perl, pathetic documentation all round for everything, no decent tutorials for anyone wanting to start up, etc., etc.
Rumour also has it that H&P have dropped all plans for Amiga products in the future. This could include the AOS4 version of StormC that was mooted. (My guess is that they could no longer secure the services of any Amiga developers, which is what happens when you stain your reputation beyond repair)
More and better development tools are needed if enough "bedroom programming" is going to be encouraged to help the Amiga platforms survive.

Yes, yet they are not only experienced but also have a great deal of time to do so, not to mention a considerable base of re-usable code they've built up over the years. Often the development isn't even done on "Amigas", but on something like Linux and then cross-compiled.
That's not good enough for the "bedroom programmer" scene. New programmers have to be attracted (as well as new users) and the current range of tools don't make a really attractive proposition.
Once again I give any standard Linux distro as an example of what should be aimed at in terms of development tools.

ahem anyway... I am currently working on an online browser based game so I am trying to split my body in half to be able to work on this Quake TC project.
I will be setting up a website today if anyone is interested in joining in and helping out :-)

Well, it's probably better than 'Big Brother' anyway, at least they have scripts (and a - kind of - story)... :-P

When there's Quake 2 compiled for all of AmigaOS 4 (or WOS), LinuxPPC, MorphOS, AROS-on-x86 and AROS-on-PowerPC, do all of these require a recompile for tc code as well?

I am sitting here being tormented by a mosquito
and i am in London ffs..
reminds me of when i was in the army, all i can hear is "vzvzvzvzvzvvvvzv" in my ear as he zooms down to suck my blood as i try to sleep. aas soon as the lights come on he disappears.....

oh i made a small little site to post news and info on any games thats gonna be under development.
