ACube Systems is happy to announce the launch of a new repair service for broken 603e PPC CPUs on BlizzardPPC cards.
The broken CPU will be removed and replaced with one of the following CPUs:
- 603e @ 200 Mhz - BGA
- 603e @ 300 Mhz - BGA
The prices for the service are:
- 603e @ 200 Mhz : Euro 165,00 + shipping and local vat
- 603e @ 300 Mhz : Euro 199,00 + shipping and local vat
- optional adhesive metallic cooler with fan (40x40x10 mm) : Euro 9
To be noted:
- we won't be able to replace broken 040/060CPUs or other onboard components, and we won't upgrade to a faster CPU a working BlizzardPPC board (since the reworking is not risk free)
- given the age of these boards we predict to be able to repair around 75% of broken boards. This means that not all the boards can be repaired
- we don't overclock, the CPUs are genuine parts rated at the reported speeds, we don't replace the onboard crystals, only the CPU multiplier setup will be changed if required
- the 300 Mhz model may need an additional cooling solution
DNetc results (300 Mhz CPU versus 210 Mhz CPU)
core 0: 911.134 key/sec - 607.283 key/sec
core 1: 968.609 key/sec - 664.135 key/sec
core 2: 827.675 key/sec - 550.799 key/sec
core 5: 994.333 key/sec - 662.668 key/sec
core 6: 962.086 key/sec - 641.639 key/sec
core 0: 4.235.245 nodes/sec - 2.823.000 nodes/sec

Interesting, I wonder what the speed difference is between a 233mHz 604e and a 300mHz 603e? I would guess that the 604e is still faster, but I wonder by how much now with this turn of events?
Come on aCube! I want a fix for CyberStorm boards that replaces my 233mHz 604e with a 1.5GHz G4!!!
(not possible, I know, I know)

300Mhz with our CSPPC would be perfect! (CSPPCs are way faster anyway compared to BPPC)
Thanks ACube band! :-)

i would like to know what the part number is of the 300Mhz 603e.
just seen the photo it looks like its a MPC603RXX.
-
I must admit, Acube is impressing me.

Nice service to offer... very very high prices, but this is a premium service so I guess they can ask for whatever they like.
I hope they make enough profit from this service, and MiniMig sales to consider investing a bit more money in our community.

"Nice service to offer... very very high prices"
are you joking? very high prices that? with a new CPU as well?
-
if the faulty CPU is changed and the card is still faulty where does the customer stand.
will the card be returned with old or new CPU and is there a charge.
i think the CPU retail for around $120 per chip for 300mhz..so i think its a fair price to pay.

better to ask them directly:

Regarding the Cyberstorm, I remember an old discussion about it and IIRC it can go up to 350mhz;) Now that would be cool. So far noone wanted to risk their expensive boards to try that. And bear in mind that the memory interface on the Cyberstorm is way faster. You could probably put a 604e with a big cache in there too:)
-
Do they also repair 604e on CSPPC?
-
No it appears they're only doing the 603e on Blizzard PPC boards.
EDIT: It's also very tempting to get PG to upgrade my 68040 to 68060 and then ship it off to ACube to get a 300Mhz version but... SO. EXPENSIVE.
