Title: PowerPC Wrapper available
Post by: reflect on March 30, 2008, 12:05:59 AM
We are pleased to announce that as of today, you can download the WarpOS wrapper library from aminet and os4depot. The library has been updated to work on the very latest AmigaOS 4 and will enable you to run WarpOS applications and play WarpOS games.

This library will open up a range of games, scene demos and applications, however, if it uses Warp3D you may have to use software 3D renderer, which should work fine on an AmigaOne. This is due to how the software was written - if it was written in a correct and system-friendly way, it should work just fine.

I can confirm SGrab_WOS as working. That splash screen is quite obnoxious, however...

@Matt_H

If you read the guide, you would have found out how to disable it.

Good for OS4 users I guess, I am just surprised this is needed, especially this:

Ouch! I was using Warp3D on MOS 1.3 back in 2003 :oops: That kind sucks..

@redrumloa

I haven't experimented with it much, but the Wipeout demo used Warp3D without any issues. From your comment I don't know if you realize that we've had Warp3D working on OS4 for years.

Some games rely on Warp3D features that don't exist on OS4. I know that indirect rendering was removed as StormMESA requires it to work. Indirect rendering never game any performance advantages.

I expect that this will be solved eventually.

BTW, what WarpOS games/apps exist? I never had a PowerUP card, so I really wouldn't know.

@ RWO

Thanks, found it. A "Special Thanks" page doesn't seem like a good place to put the only mention of a configuration option, however...

Software renderer working on classic too, but slow. AFAIK there will be solution for this, but don't know when. So hardware renderer planned for os4, but not out yet. Maybe the situation changed with the appearence of ati+mediator cards.

@red

you forgot to include the most important sentence:

It means that there is nothing stopping WarpOS programs using Warp3D under OS4, its just that some WarpOS software is broken.

@Hans & Xeron

I thought it was working, so I was a bit confused it seems. Thanks for the clarification.
