Title: Voodoo 3 performance
Post by: jahc on October 23, 2003, 08:39:43 AM
How well does a Voodoo 3 run amiga stuff? Games, and graphics demos in particular. I'm bidding on one for my AmigaOne.

Hi !

On Pegasos I + MorphOS, I got around 60 fps in 1024*768 even "outside"
with my Voodoo 3 3000.

;-)

Bye

You should consider get a Peg II then

Erm, even if I agree with you, I think this comment was sort of OT, and probably will just generate another bunch of flames.  :-(  :-x

If it is cheap enough I would say go for it.
Don't pay much more £20 for one.
I bid on a AGP 3000 model one and got it for £15ish with TV-OUT.
AFAIK unless this has changed OS4 will ship with only an OS4 recompile of WARP3D in its current state.
So If you want to play  Warp3D  Demos & Games on your AmigaOne from day1 when OS4 is released then you'll need a Voodoo3 or Permedia 2 based Card.
I'll be putting my Voodoo3 back in A1 when  OS4 drops theough the door and swapping it out when the ATI 3D driver is done.
Saying that If OS4 ships with ATI 3D drivers I'll be sticking it on ebay

As for performance I can't fault it. Got one in m A1200 as well. Fast refresh does 1280x1024 24Bit good enough for 17" TFT monitors.  :-P

Hi

I have just got a voodoo 3 2000.

I think voodoo 3 2000 and voodoo 3 3000 are the very same card.I have heard the card speed is determined by the code in the flashrom.

Do you know of its possible to reflash the card and upgrade the voodoo 3 2000 into voodoo 3 3000?

Best Regards

Well, in my A4000 using Elbox's drivers, it works pretty damn great. No reason why it shouldn't once OS4 is out for the A1.

hi Frank!
yeah that's the only difference, but keep in mind that there are sdram and sgram models and that some voodoo3 have tvout and may use a different flash...

I wouldn't reflash the board, you can overclock it via software...
