Title: i found out why the london underground fails so often! :)
Post by: sir_inferno on October 22, 2003, 06:44:52 PM
i found out why the london underground fails so often!
Only joking but this is interesting for any1 living in london, or near it anyway.
I went to the london transport museum today (don't ask me why, just don't), take the picadilly line to covent garden, turn right from the elevators then go down the street turn left, then go straightish left and it will be there, and i was walking past the boring bits (all of it), when i went past "exhibit 10". Next to it is a part of an escalator if you decide to go there to check it out. Then on the left of the escalator, there were two monitors, one on top of the other. The top one was displaying some pictures, however the bottom one must have had a power surge or somthing, but it had the amiga cd 32 logo on it...

since i've never seen one nor played on one b4, i don't know if it was the boot up screen but maybe you guys can tell me. It had a black background, and White text which spelled AMIGA, without the red dot about the i  :-?  in was in the style like it's written on the A500, A500+, and A1200, (can't say about any others cos don't have them  :-P ), and the cd 32 was in a red ring spinning around.

I thought this was cool [cause it was amiga], then interesting [cause that shows the age of the museum and the reliability of the software/platform], then frightning [is this the age of the computers that london underground uses!?!?!?!?!?!?  :-?  :-P. So if you live in london, or around it, or are one of the most frequent tourists there, have a look. And if the CD32 there hasn't re-booted  :-D  then have a look at the complexity of the program/task it's running... i would be interested to know...

I lived in London for four years, and went to Uni round the corner from there - I must have walked past that place hundreds of times but never got the urge to go in - maybe I will on Friday ...

The CD?? boot up screen has a cd on the center, black background with stars and iris colours and an italic AMIGA CD?? TM logo (red colours). When you insert the CD, the "CD" logo starts spinning.

ummmmmmmmmm, it just had a black background, no cd.

When the CD 32 was spinning around, instead of it being mirrored one way, it was the right way round when it was spinning around. Also, kind of half way around CD and half way around 32, there was this kind of dark red elipse around it. Also, i think they also did the software for the "tube driver" simulator machine...

some1 should check it out  8-)

I believe they purchased a large amount of cd-32s, something like 113 i think.

Ok, if I get time to visit I will! Since I always take my camera with me wherever I go - can't promise anything tho - going to meet with a friend who's just come back over from Lithuania - some hard drinking to be done, and he ain't too interested in the underground I'd hazard...

On the CDTV if you inserted the wrong type  or an otherwise unreadable disk; instead of the normal purple/blue/pink insert disk screen, you got an angry red/black similar design screen.  That may be what's going on here with the CD32.

Nah, it was most likely booting, this is how the cd32 behaves when it is loading a cd.

unless the cd32 takes about an hour to boot up, it wasn't booting up, i'd go along with the theory that it had a wrong disc inserted...
