I wonder if we will get clarification from Amiga Inc tomorrow :-?
-
Am I dreaming?
-
How many Classic PPC users are out there?
-
At last! Now all i want to hear is a reasonable price. I've heard some rumors about at least 100 euros. Let's hope that they are just rumors
@nautilus
There was a poll about this recently. If you search you will find a link.

Me ME ME!!! Jeez... finally, I feel like asking if I am dreaming too. Mental note to not get my hopes up... gotta prevent my fingers from tripple hitting the submit button on the order form (when one becomes available)
:D

Tempting... Makes me want to by a BPPC for my A1200!..
-
Can't wait to get one...

Me!! I have 2 PPC cards!
Ready to rock and roll! It's like xmas is coming early!!! Finally all my preparation for this day has proven to not be in vain!!!
-
I wonder how good it will be though. it appears that there is no support for G-Rex busboards at all. A4000 mediator users might get a usable system, but a1200 ones will get crap as far as I can tell... because there is also no support for the trick that mediator1200 does so it uses the vga vram as DMA buffer (or something like that...)
-
@keropi
Both Mediator 1200 & 4000 use the DMA trick. It does mean that if you use the native OS4 mediator support, it limits the cards you can use (10mbit realtek card instead of 100mbit for example. Not that the 100mbit card ever went much faster than 10mbit in a mediator anyway).
However, if you want, you can remove the native drivers for the cards in your mediator and still use Elboxes 68k drivers. They even work with the native Picasso96.
-
WOW, what a wonderful achievement. Getting extra users is just incredible. Those 6 years have really paid off and your in the money.
You guys rock.
PS: Rouge, Hows that private jet that you and your bro purchased?
-
"Classic Amiga"? Please cant we stop using this lame "Classic Amiga" term coined by Amiga Inc?
Amiga sounds much better.
-
@itix
How about Original Formula?
-
@itix: i agree!
-
Now we just need to find a way to strap an old PPC board on a Minimig. ;)
-
sweet I love it finally !!!!
-
Since the original Amiga 68K CPU is disabled by OS 4.0, could a PPC CPU be put on the Minimig. Yeah, I know too easy to simply work. We can dream...
-
My only real concern is having to buy one of these cards of eBay just to run OS4.
I've heard of them dying, failing, overheating etc.
It's not like Blizzard and Cyberstorm are new/guaranteed hardware.
It just feels a bit risky, having never owned one before.
How old are these PPC things again?
-
Excellent news! :pint:
-
No one has even bothered to wait for a official announcement before getting excited. Amiga Inc are not going to let this happen, that is why hyperion have used a lap dog/mug/fall guy (etc) to spread the news instead of them direct.
Makes you wonder if their real intentions are out to scam amiga inc.
-
I waited.
So there.
:rtfm:
-
WOW
-
It ain't released until the punters have the CD in their hands.

That's what she said.
-
I can understand the skepticism, but be aware that we (the betatesting team) are in the process of thoroughly testing the installation CD right now, and have been for a while, so they do seem to be preparing for a release, not just making announcements.
-
SWEET!!!!

It`s now official on hyperions site, Amiga inc take action NOW and stop them before they cash in on your ip.

Not really related, but HACK_€tr's comment re: IP reminded me of something funny. I was browsing newgroups the other day and came across two programmers describing the merits of their respective "inventions." Both had patents, but of course, neither was willing to back up their claims with actual code for fear of giving the other an edge. At one point, one programmer noted sending a university research group a patent violation warning. Now, in the scientific community, if two groups happen upon the same results independently, they share in the discovery. As with any endeavor involving human beings, there's a fair amount of competition, scooping, etc., but in general, they allow their work to be used for the greater good. (That doesn't apply, of course, to research performed on behalf of governments or companies under a contract of secrecy of some sort.)
My primary point here is that no self-respecting scientist accepts a claim without empirical evidence to back it up. In industry, however, not only is empirical evidence hard to come by, it's often protected by non-disclosure agreements, trade secrets laws, and genetically enhanced ninja monkeys. Regardless, we as consumers are expected to accept claims at face value and often have no recourse if the claims turn out to be false.
And to keep this on topic, only time will tell whose monkeys have the stronger kung fu.

i wouldnt get too excited. unless you all enjoy being brought back down to earth with a bump. or havent we all learnt our leasons from past release date "announcements"?
don't say i didnt tell you so, come the 30th next month :-P

@arcanoid
Come on, i think it's obvious that this time is for real.. The only possible catch that i can foreseen could be an outrageous price.
-
As the owner of two PPC Amigas, I have to say.. this is wonderful news! :hat: :juggler: :hat: :knuddel:
-
Thank you OS4 Team! :cheers: :cheers: :cheers:

i only have 1 bppc card left but if this gets out i will order 2 versions just for support .. :-D
-
Is it possible down the road that OS4 will be compatible with WinUAE? That would be sweet.
-
Does one needs some kind of proof if he/she owns an Amiga with PPC from DCE/PhaseV? In other words, is it for sale (or will it become for sale) for everyone? If yes, then its about time to hack PPC support / emulation into WinUAE. Should be possible with all those multi-core AMDs in the shops.
