Title: AROS Status Update 2006-12-10
Post by: wonea on December 13, 2006, 11:49:54 AM: The latest update of Aros is here, with lots of changes, improvements, and bug fixes.

For those running on a PPC linux, there is a hosted flavor to run. Initial Drag and Drop has been incorporated into Wanderer. The documentation has also been given a through going through, which should make it much easier for developers starting off, and work has been done to make Zune compatible to MUI programs. Plus icon editing should be easier thanks to write support for PNG datatype.

On a side note there are ports of AutoDocReader for the AutoDoc format, and AmiGG 0.44.3 has been ported to AROS. Making Instant Messenging a reality on Aros! Murks IDE has also been made available for those developing projects on Windows using AmiDevCpp.

It takes more fiddlying around than should be, but hey we'll get there in the end.

If you have a linux installation, you can run it hosted as well.

But my bravery stat is a little low right now :-)

Isn't hosted slower than Native?

I want speed... but I want reliability more... decisions decisions...

I want to set up my puter with quadruple boot capability.

1. Boot from CR-ROM for anything.
2. Boot from HD1 for Linspire
3. Boot from HD2 for WindozeXP
4. Boot from HD3 for AROS Native

Just download the latest build from aros.org, uncompress it. Go to the directory you put it in. Open a shell and type:
./aros --memsize32

If you have any questions, post on AROS-Exec or jump on the AROS IRC Channel.

Post by: wonea on December 13, 2006, 10:55:23 PM: Yeah, if want to try Aros out the quickest way is to download & burn the latest nightly (http://aros.sourceforge.net/download.php#nightly-builds) build to CD-ROM, stick it in your machine and hey presto!

Post by: dammy on December 13, 2006, 11:53:15 PM: The other option is to use a mobile HD bay system. Just have two cradles for your different hds. Power down (unless it's hot swapping), slide the AROS hd out, slide in your other OS HD into the box and power up. Nice thing is, for relatively little money, most mobile HD bays have additional fans blowing on the drives so they stay cool all the time.

It's "Status" (or if you prefer, "News") update on what has been happening in AROS over the past three months. It's a way to give the public a quick update of what's going on with AROS (http://www.aros.org).
