I would suggest to refrain from buying a Spider card as you cannot register Poseidon for it anymore and hence, the card is completely useless.
-
And people wonder why the Amiga market isn't sustainable. . . . Fortunately, my Spider was free. (Thanks, Elbox.) At some point, the holdouts will see the wisdom of making their products hardware agnostic.
-
If they put the Tower Cases for free shipping, I'd be getting one :-S
-
Yes, there really is no point in selling a USB card to Amiga users when there is no way to use it on an Amiga.
-

How come?
-
> How come?
I'm "getting over it" as suggested.
-
@ platon42:
don't listen to the loosers suggesting to "get over it" and do whatever u want with your product. now let them "get over it" :pissed:
-
Well, just another piece of software that I won't be needing to spend my money on anymore. Good going.
-
Did you notice that prices in USD are the same that prices in EUR for european customers? Hence, the Spider 2 is 63.5 USD + free shipping for any customer in the world, but 63.5 EUR + free shipping for europeans, equal to 81.45 USD.
Shame on them!!
-
Aha, there have been things going on... I see...
Oh, well, whatever... 'it doesn't matter, to me', I guess I would have to say, then...
...the market, developers aswell as end-users, will kill itself eventually... or something the like...
:-)
-
Thats a shame, aint got around to getting a usb card for my amiga and doesnt look like a while anytime soon then..Its not right what elbox have done to chris though..

@Elbox
Think I'll be tempted too a new FastATA this week! I know it can't be easy these days, but thank you for sticking with us tru the years and for continuing to develop and support the Amiga today. Happy Birthday!
-
Are these unfortunate products lead free :-?

No Poseidon USB for 68K (http://www.platon42.de/poseidonreg.html)
Am I expected to stop using the platform that got me to this point just because one developer says "it's time"?
I've tried MorphOS on my CSPPC and it works, but it can't be registered anymore either, and I can't boot into MorphOS with the Algor in place.
What's going on here?
-
It's called a lack of professionalism. No group whines, complains, and airs more dirty laundry in public than the Amiga community.
EDIT: That's directed at the hardware and software vendors, not the end users. Well, maybe a few of them.
-
What's going on here?
The Amiga community suggested him to get over it and move on.

That´s simply because the EU prices inlcudes taxes and Tariffs only concerning countries within the EU. Check here (http://shop.elbox.com/cgibin/shop?buy=505EF40&sid=27f1c469)!

Birthday promotion? I'm trying to register
an Elbox product now. No matter what email
address I send the info to it's labeled as
spam by the mailer daemon and bounces whether
I use YAM or Outlook Express. If you buy something and shipping is free, can you register
for product support?

probably your ISP is in the Elbox server blacklist
Try to contact them with a web based mail service or so.
-
I've sent mail from, and recieved responses in the past at this address but that doesn't mean something hasn't changed since then. You may be
right. I'll give this a try and see what happens. Thankyou for the suggestion.

@platon42
I'm thinking about getting a Subway for my towered A1200, does Poseidon OEM version still come with that or is it registerable? It'd be shame if some posts have made you decide to up and quit the market entirely, before many of us have had a chance to sample USB :-?
-
Hi,
the latest SUBWAY production (serial numbers >= 600) include a fully working OEM version of Poseidon V3.x (if you have other USB controllers in your system, they will not automatically have a V3.x license, only the new SUBWAY).
No need to register, E3B has paid the registration fee already for you :-)

Do you mean registering Morphos Powerup? That's not possible for weeks now. The registration server is down and nobody feels responsible to fix it.

Do you mean registering Morphos Powerup? That's not possible for weeks now. The registration server is down and nobody feels responsible to fix it.
Exactly. So at this point, those with an Algor can either run it on an operating system (MorphOS PowerUp) which runs for two hours at a time, or use it with OS 3.9 for half an hour, and with only one device.
Look at this from a different perspective. If I were Elbox, I'd be grinning from ear-to-ear. Now Poseidon is shooting itself in the foot and the way is clear for me to release a USB stack I can more closely control, because Poseidon appears to be at death's doorstep.
I think this paints Elbox in a corner, and either the Spider will disappear, or Elbox will find a way to put their own USB stack out. Either way, this move on the part of Poseidon's author seems ill-conceived on the surface. Unless there's a technicalogical barrier which makes future versions of Poseidon unsuitable for 68K, cutting off an already small userbase is probably a move in the wrong direction.
Of course, this is assuming anybody really cares. ;-)
-
or Elbox will find a way to put their own USB stack out.
I wouldn't hold my breath, you don't write a complete USB-stack just like this.
-
Oh... okay... I see... after having read through the statement on the page linked to earlier, that is...
So... because there is this possibility that Elbox might have been using Poseidon without a proper registration the author of Poseidon have decided to stop supporting Poseidon for 68k.
In other words, to be blunt, because of Elbox possibly having done something illegal the community should suffer... and, the community should also put the blame on Elbox for Poseidon not being supported for 68k anymore? That doesn't seem like logic...
If the author of Poseidon stops supporting Poseidon for the 68k I will consider it being the authors decision and the authors decision only. Thus he is the only one to blame (if one considers someone to be blamed). Yes, there might be strong reasons for making this decision, but still, it isn't Elbox that have made the decision, and that is true no matter what they might have done (that, I say, because I have no clue as wether or not they have done something wrong or not).
Thankfully this doesn't affect me since I am not interested in using USB on my Amiga at the moment, but on the other hand... if I ever would have been I would have registered Poseidon.
I guess my entire point with this post is that I find the entire scenario rather... uhm... tragic. Anyways, I do hope that things can be settled... because even if I don't want to use USB on my Amiga, I know there are others that want to do that very thing; to use Poseidon on THEIR Amigas, that is...
;-)

what tarrifs? they already got paid on imported items external to eu, I'm presuming the spider is just a generic card with a new sticker on it.
as for VAT, I've been told in netherlands it's generally 19.5%, meanwhile in the sunny uk it's 17.5%
so, keeping it in dollars,
63.5 + 17.5% = 74.65 uk
63.5 + 19.5% = 75.88 nl
and no doubt a similar picture for other eu nations.
neither of these sums amount to 81.45 USD, and on the site, VAT is specified as being included in the price.
I'm not making any accusations or claims here and companies can charge whatever they like for their goods.
I just found the comment interesting, I'll go back to lurking now.
(then I get told it's 19% in nl.. oh well lurk time )

The prices on Elbox's web site aren't usually accurate. You aren't told the actual price until you're sent to PolCard's billing system. The price you're given is in zlotych (PLN) based on PolCard's current conversion rate, which isn't always accurate. Today, it looks like PolCard's conversion rates are good (be sure to check the Wall Street Journal, xe.com, or some other source to be sure), so now's the time to buy if you're interested. (But don't spend 64USD on a useless, rebranded USB card. That would be stupid.)
EDIT: Hehehe. This is on PolCard's web site: "Every second outlet accepting payment cards in Poland cooperates with POLCARD." I think they need a new translator. Makes it sound like they'll send someone 'round to your house to break your legs if you don't "cooperate."
-
That sounds like a good explanation of the situation
also "Mr Polcard 'strongly encourages' you to use his service that he has kindly provided" hehe :D

ok, I'm just gonna say that's unfair! I didn't know Chris' intention of stopping support for spiders when I ordered it! That's why he didn't respond to my pmail about it it seems....I feel I'm getting punished for still supporting miggy by buying hardware and legal software....I'm not saying Elbox are saints, cuz they're not, rdb-trashing code, "proprietary" NEC cheap cards sold for 64euros and all....but if Chris hadn't suggested to them to have his own stack as a standard, they should have developed their own stack and I/we wouldn't be so screwed! I feel both Elbox and Chris couldn't care less about users and a. Elbox cares to make as much cash from a dead platform as possible - b. Chris driven by his own grief only cares to make a point against Elbox by screwing his fellow amigans in the process.....no I'm not trying to flame Chris here, I respect his work, but that's how I feel.
Well, u know what? I couldn't care less too! If Elbox won't release a stack soon I'm sure Linux or BSD will support my spider with its stack and if that fails, I'll get my butt down and develop a usb stack of my own that will support basic stuff like mass storage devices and printers/scanners and add functionality to it overtime. And if anyone else here cares to help me on this that's great and let's do it for free for all and do for once something that is right for our community! So, come February, if Elbox has not delivered (I'm pretty sure they won't anyway) and Chris hasn't changed his stance (same here) I say we go for it. What do u think?
