Title: Amiga and Thunderbirds (Hockey) announce content deal
Post by: benJamin on September 27, 2006, 12:19:46 AM
After a long period of being very quite, another anouncement regarding Amiga's provision of Hockey-related paraphernalia comes as Amiga ramp-up their expansion and advertising campaigns.

Read the press release (http://oursportscentral.com/services/releases/?id=3380531).

It's nice to see stuff like this happening but I can't help  think "What the heck is the connection?". Surely there must be a few more applicable venues to promote the Amiga. All the best to them in any case.

Pete

P.S. Just had this thought/flashback to the Chelsea Football Club having major sponsorship from Amiga UK. I remember wanting one of the jerseys and then seeing someone somewhere selling them for some god awful price. But at least that connection made a bit more sense - big UK market for young boys playing footy AND playing computer games.

This was my thought, as well.  "What does Amiga get out of this?"  Granted, the Thunderbirds have a history in the Seattle area, and are a powerhouse in the WHL.  But the WHL is basically an unwatched and unloved farm league for the NHL which, itself, is all but ignored in USA everywhere outside the hockey northeast (Detroit, NY, NJ, Boston, Chicago are the only places that pay attention to hockey.)

Why?  Maybe they're hoping to get noticed by a certain large technology company in the Seattle area?  Sort of like putting on all your makeup and hanging out in the trendy California hang-outs trying to get "noticed" by that big producer?    As crazy as it sounds, that's the only thing that makes any sense.
