The Development of the Amiga OS4 port of OpenOffice.org requires some assistance. We have currently completed some dependancies including libusb, aspell, neon and some work has been done on porting csh.
We need developers to produce a complete dependancy database plus
further the csh port.
All this needs doing prior to starting the actual OpenOffice.org code.

I'm curious what you need the csh shell for.

It is needed for the compile scripts.

I whole-heartedly believe it does need urgent assistance. If I knew more on the programming side, I'd offer my own help. But, I do have two-cents to donate.
"Worth" is a subjective term. What is the "worth" of porting OpenOffice to OS4? Well, in the eyes of Amiga compatriots everywhere, those who keep an eye on Amiga, and the world over, a successful modern software port like this could quite possibly break the AmigaOS "ice."
We've been promised Opera and Mozilla, and there's others which I cannot immediately recall nor cite. In any event, modern massive software ports to Amiga have been mostly pipe dreams and vaporware. That tends to chill the environment more.
Sure, we've had games like Doom, Quake, Myst, and others come to us, each release whetting the drying palate of the Amiga dye-hard. But in the end the excitement dies over porting such old kit. But could something modern, something a little more universal, something which brings Amiga closer to the world make people take notice? Do many people now run OS4? Would more be interested, even if just to see?
Every frustrated developer which gives up on Amiga software because it's not worth it is yet another nail in the coffin. I fear we may be running out of room for nails.

Not so many people have it and most of them prefer to switch to a PC or a unix ... :getmad:

Because the people that started the project are primarily OS4 users. Though they are open to having it compile to other Amiga flavors if MOS and AROS programmers are willing to join the project, since they would know best what small changes would be needed in the code tree for their OS.

That's a nice cooperative spirit, from which the whole Amiga community will benefit :-D.

If openoffice and firefox came to OS4 or AROS I would gladly give up daily use of my wintel box.
I don't use a computer for much other than a bit of web browsing, some spreadsheets and a little word processing.
I have been following progress on AROS avidly, and had all but given up on investing in OS4. That would definitely change if the above two packages became available.
