After the first 7 Month of the regsitration for the PowerUP cards we published now the first results. We would to thank to 335 participants who submitted us their data.
http://powerup.amigaworld.de/index.php?lang=en&page=39
We are still looking for more data to get a more detailed result.

126 BlizzardPPC cards and 112 CyberstormPPC cards is not much.
-
I don't know a single user who has registered yet.
-
I havent regged either , sorry :)

I did and my card wins! :-) :-)

I did.

Sounds pretty real - 238 active classic PPC users. If 50% more aren't registered and are less active - that's only 119 more.
So total ~357 total classic (real, or whatever you call them) Amiga PPC users.
-
Not exactly enough of a user base to justify producing software for...
-
238 active classic PPC users.
My BPPC & BVisionPPC are registed, but unused.
-
my CSPPC and CVPPC are used but not registered
PS- ah btw.... remove the "serial n." thing and i'll register both NOW.

Why? Did you steal them? ;-)

It doesn't mean that there are only 238 PPC users in the world, only that there are 238 PPC users who
a. read the forums
b. understand english or gernam
c. happened to read about this poll, and
d. bothered to register.
If 238 was the real number, it would mean that 98% of PPC cards disappeared or died since 1998. :-o

Nope. But interesting theory.

Makes no sence without serial. Otherwise a card could be registered unlimited times.

@nicholas
"Why? Did you steal them?"
yep :-D
-
sorry DJBase but my religion, doesn't allows me ;-)

I guess a good estimate of the number of PPC PowerUP users would be the number of downloads of the free version of MorpOS/PowerUp.

No, it wouldn't. A large number of BPPC-owners can't run it, since MOS/Powerup doesn't support Mediator/Gfx.

98% didnt disappear or die but are sitting unused on unused Amigas. 238 is not the real number but I wouldnt expect more than 500 real users.

Your choice, we are living in a free world.
-
regged my bppc the instant this form was created... :-D
hey the bvision example of the site is # V801643 , mine is #V801642 LOL   :-D :-D
-
First time I heard about this registration :) I guess these results have nothing to do with real userbase.
-
@DJBase: im sorry for not registering my 4 PPC and my 2 CSPPC...i guess im just a lazy...but i promise i will register soon...so you can add 1 user (or 4 users, since i have all cards installed on different machines)
Cheers!
Sebastian

Absolutely normal. What percentage of the original sold C64s were still in use 8 years after? What percentage of the original IBM XT clones were in use 8 years after they were produced? What percentage of the 603 and 604 based Macs didn't disappear or die since 1998?

And what percentage of A1200s are still in use.

10.000 cards was the total of all powerup cards (bppc, csppc, bvision and cvision). So let us count 3.000 for each bppc and csppc, 2.000 for each bvision and cvision.
I don't know the real amount but that is what I guess. I doubt there were ever 10.000 powerup cards (bppc and csppc) made. This would be a way too much for the small market in 1997/98.

I think this is a different situation. First, the PPC cards still have a substantial cash value attached to them. And so, when a person ceases to use them, they tend not to sit unused but to be sold on to another user who, having invested a relatively large amount of money, is going to use it. A C64 / old Mac / XT/AT PC, on the other hand has no value, and so is more likely to be left in a closet gathering dust.
Secondly, in the case of the 603/604 Macs, they have been superceded by newer / better / faster models. While in the case of the PowerUp cards, they are stil the fastest expansion available for the classic Amigas. Again, this encourages people who actually own them, to use them.
-
I have not registerd my CuberstormPPC because I dont want to have to remove the card and risk causing dammage as it works great for me the way it is and to get at the serial# I have to remove it. Not worth the hastle.
-
If you use WhichAmiga (http://piru.dyndns.org/~p/sw/WhichAmiga.lha)
there's no need to remove your board

Then why those Blizzards are never sold anywhere? Not even 060 only models?

I see BlizzardPPC on eBay all the time - I just looked and found two now, and there were three offered for sale here on amiga.org in the last week, and one on amibench 8 days ago. That's six for sale in 8 days - almost one a day. For an item so rare they are being sold an awful lot.
-
Or you could use Report+ (http://www.deadwoodinc.net/amigan/releases/) to get the serial number...
-
I registered!
:-)
-
I registered my two BlizzPPC in time.
I am a good guy :-)
-
I hav'nt registered either yet, I've got 3 PPC. 2 very much alive and 1 thats very much dead without a serial number?
-
You guys have got to stop believing the 10K unit myth.
