Title: MorphOS Updates
Post by: Piru on June 11, 2006, 10:29:07 PM
The MorphOS development team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of another MorphOS update for computers equipped with PowerUP accelerator cards.
Plus a new version of the MorphOS 3D Update has been released.

MorphOS for PUP:
The included changes are as follows:

· fixed A4000T mainboard SCSI support
· added missing execute protection flags for 68k monitor drivers
· added missing #?Monitor prefs files for 68k monitor driver

The MorphOS Free Edition for PowerUP can be downloaded from http://powerup.morphos-team.net (http://powerup.morphos-team.net). We suggest to carefully read the instructions on the website as well as in the included "readme" text to make the installation process as effortless as possible.

MorphOS 3D Update:

The changes since the previous release are:
· r200, rv250 and rv280 cards (8500, 9000, 9100, 9200, 9250) now work on Pegasos 1.
· Fixed a rare lockup condition on r200 (8500, 9100).
· Fixed a random crash on starting the first 3D application on Pegasos 1.
· Fixed a scissoring problem on r200, rv250 and rv280 (8500, 9000, 9100, 9200, 9250)
· Minor speedups and improvements

The update can be downloaded from http://download.morphos-team.net/ (http://download.morphos-team.net/) or the MorphOS FTP site.

If the newsitem seems a bit disoriented to you, there is a simple explanation: These were originally two separate newsitems that apparently got merged.

Well done, but still no Mediator support? :-(

The only thing that keeps me from switching to Morphos is the missing Mediator-support.

There will be no mediator 1200 support. Mediator 4000 support could be possible in theory, but is unlikely.

The most prominent reason that mediator will likely never be supported is the requirement of Picasso96. CyberGraphX is integral part of MorphOS and cannot be removed. See Official ELBOX post on mediator with MOS (http://www.morphzone.org/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=3960&forum=42)

My personal view of Elbox has nothing to do with this, though getting me to work with Elbox would require a crowbar and a lot of violence.

@Piru

and what's the status of Prometheus support? I remember reading that it was already supported years ago, but I guess that code may need to be updated...

What would you need in order to support Mediator4000?

Is it due to "political reasons" and lacking documentation that there is no Mediator support or are there other reasons why only the less successful busboards are supported?

Did I say that somewhere? With "successful" I was referring to actual sales. Sales of Prometheus and G-Rex were much lower. (apart from the fact that Mediators are still being produced)

where, given the fact that os4 classic and mos would be build on the p5 ppc plattform, it is no surprise that there is no other busboard support... a shame really...

in every aspect, a larger userbase is better!

IS there still no support for fast ata(powerflyer).  This is the main thing stopping me trying this, as I do no wish to to ake my machine apart to try this out

there is NO need to remove the fastata to try MOS, it will sit there unactivated, it will work like the normal a1200 IDE.... try it, don't worry about it!  :-D

I'll cross my fingers for an AROS PUP version that supports Mediator then. :-D

mhhh! Elbox fault?

That hardware was not provided for MorphOS development, and Elbox is well aware of it.

Whatever was provided back then is irrelevant for MorphOS support today, anyway. MorphOS requires proper DMA and doesn't work with banked memory windows. MorphOS has CyberGraphX integrated and it cannot use Picasso96.
