To a special order from their trade partner AmigaKit, Individual Computers has developed a memory expansion for the Amiga 600.
The technical data in detail:
- 1MB memory for expansioin to 2MB chipmem total
- battery-backed up realtime clock
- leak proof lithium battery made in Germany
- clockport for A1200 expansions like Silversurfer, Delfina or Subway
- extremely small design
(http://www.siliconsonic.de/news/A600mem_rtc.jpg)
The expansions will be shipped to AmigaKit starting July 3rd, all other trade partners will have the product starting july 17th, 2006. Contrary to announcements of other trade partners, there will be no expansions without a realtime clock. The recommended sales price is 39,90 EUR incl. 16% German VAT.
If you want to order directly, please use the contact form (http://amiga.think42.com/email/email_e.htm) of the website of individual Computers (http://ami.ga).

Very nice. Good work Jens.
Any news about the redesigned A630 accelerator?
-
Heh. I always knew someone would find a way to get more than memory signals out of the A600 trapdoor :-)
EDIT: I guess this could open the door for other trapdoor expansions - integrated Chip RAM, clock, and USB and Ethernet board, anyone? Any way to slap some Fast RAM on there?
-
I think it's cool that people are still interested in making stuff and that there are still people that want to buy it. If the C=64 can have enthusiasts that spend money, why can't Amiga? I guess it can. :-)
-
amazing!
the clockport feature is way too cool!
good job!
-
Nice, but I'd like cheap accelerator with some fast mem :)
-
Oooh, I got to get me one of those!
My A600 memory expansion has been dead for ages, so this is great news!
-
So i need to get one decent A600
-
Nice... but why is it standing up?
thats the second A600 memory card to come out this year (Both German).
nice stuff :-)
-
good work guys keep walking :-)
what about and an a1200 clock port expansion? i mean, i need more of them in my a1200 :roflmao:
-
I wonder if you can replace the battery?
Also, I thought the delfina was incompatible with the a600 clockport adapter - this has changed now the clockport connects to the trapdoor slot?
-
Also, I thought the delfina was incompatible with the a600 clockport adapter
I hadn't heard this. It could be that it needs a CPU better than a plain 68000.
-
The old clockport-adapter (initially made for the Silversurfer) is really incompatible with the Delfina, because the software expects the A1200 address mapping.
The Silversurfer adapter (which only goes on the Gayle chip of the A600) uses a slightly different address mapping. The adapter and this new expansion cannot be used at the same time.
The clockport of this new expansion has exactly the same address mapping as the A1200 clockport, so with an 020 or higher processor, the Delfina will also work, just like many other clockport expansions. Even the Melody (mentioned somewhere in this thread) will work, as software does not have to be patched.

BenShep:
The battery is mounted on the back with Velcro tape. The contacts are soldered, so you'll need a soldering iron to replace the battery.
I'd expect the first replace to be necessary sometime in 6-8 years. The self-discharge of this cell is probably higher than the energy that goes into the RTC chip, and this battery is huge compared to other batteries used on older Amiga RTC designs.

@Schoenfeld
Thanks for your answers - it's good to know more devices can now be used with the A600. I have not heard of the melody before - what is it?
It is also good that the RTC is not an all in one battery+clock type (like the Dallas ones) - which are inconvenient to replace.
7-8 years was about my expectation - but considering the life of the Amiga so far, it's not unreasonable to expect it will require replacement in the future.
Hopefully that type of battery is still around then (or obtainable in Australia). For this reason, I probably would have preferred a CR2032 coin cell battery.
-
The required battery is really generic - you need something between 3V and 5V and solder it to the two points. I'm pretty sure that some energy source like that will be around for the next few decades, no matter where on the planet you are.
The needed current is really small, so I guess even a few lemons with copper and aluminium nails in them will do the job until you find a battery. The OKI chip starts running at 2.4V, and the lower end you get out of a lemon is 0.7V, so tell your local supermarket to set four lemons aside for june 2014 :-)

I know, I know.. just I prefer to keep things original looking 'n stuff.
-
Hey Jens...
Any word on a possible run of 030 cards for the A600?

B00tDisk:
Working on it. I'm doing the first logic tests, and the mechanical parts for proper mounting of the board are already shipped. I can't tell how long to go - could be that it works within the next two weeks, could take another two months.

@Schoenfeld
I said it before and I will say it again:
Jens................................YOU ARE THE MAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man this stuff makes me excited! :-D
Thanks for this upgrade dude! ahhhhh nothing but refreshing :-)

Now that sounds exciting. Put me down for one.
-
Thanks for the heads-up, Jens.
I forget, what were they going to be? 28's, 33's, 40's or 50's? (Clock speed that is)
-
impressive as usual keep it up jens realy gives me interest in the A600
-
Yup - exciting. Will it be a clone of the Apollo 630 (with improved quality) or will extra features be added?
Also - could it be designed to be installed without having to move the harddrive?
-
PCMCIA fast mem would have been more useful. 1mb trapdoor expansions are pretty easy to come by elsewhere.
but well done for continuing to support the a600!
-
Has anybdy heared any more of the accelerator that was planned?
I`ve got a half decent a600, just neads a good kick in the britches
