The MorphOS development team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of an updated MorphOS version for computers equipped with PowerUP accelerator cards. The included changes are as follows..
· Vastly improved graphics hardware compatability: MorphOS now includes 68K drivers for popular graphics cards such as the Cybervision64, Cybervision 64/3D and the Picasso IV.
· Problems on machines with more than 128MB of memory were fixed.
· hal.com1 was updated in order to allow proper support of CV3D.
· The RegTool (registration application) was updated as well.
· An experimental version of 4IDE support was added. (Please read the IDE splitter section in the "morphos.readme" text file.)
· The update also includes new Hungarian locale settings.
The MorphOS Free Edition for PowerUP can be downloaded from http://powerup.morphos-team.net (http://powerup.morphos-team.net). We suggest to carefully read the instructions on the website as well as in the included "readme" text to make the installation process as effortless as possible.
We hope you enjoy the update and would like to thank Csaba "Chip" Simon and Péter "Ratman" Földesi for supplying test hardware.

Does this mean that those of us without PCI expansion
boards can now use MorphOS with compatible video card?

even BVision and CVPPC were supported since the beginning (out the 3D native support).
Now even PIV, CV64/3D are supported (68K drivers)

Good news, although i'm not exactly thrilled with it.
MorphOS has been, for me, as fast as Workbench is, running on a humble 68040/25 and in some cases even slower (the menu system, just to name one).
Also, 68k apps tend to crash quite often.
So, AOS is still the number one choise for me. I run MorphOS mainly when i want to run something that doen't exist for AOS.
-
is it much faster now! i tried the first version and i belive my stock a500 could have done a better job at speed in os 3.1

Havent tried MorphOS on a classic with PPC card but can only guess its a lot slower then on a Pegasos! but what did you really expect? those PPC cards aint that fast! if you want the REAL MorphOS experience get a Pegasos.

is it much faster now!
It is??
If i'm not mistaken you have a BVision like myself. I haven't install the latest version because according to the changelog there are no optimizations and the changes that has been made are not important to my system.
Edit: I think you are referring to the "missing fonts" bug that the first version had and made Ambient really slow. If it's true, then i have fixed it already.

ok i gave it a second go but still they need to optimize the morph os to run better on the pup acc boards. I know it aint as fast as the pegasos hehe but then again thats not the point. I have tested the amiga os4 beta on both classic and the a1 and i have to say the morph os feels far slower at all aspects when it comes to the classics. I know the morph os Pup version is free and thus not as optimized or reworked as the full version for pegasos. oh and btw my setup is bppc 240\060 with 128mb ram and the bvison and it dont fell that fast when i jump into morph os, but i think i will do a reg and donate or something since it is clear the os need to be optimized further.
cheers adonay

the problem is still . . . forget to see MOS-PuP "fly" on BlizzPPC, period. Not enough juice.
About the AOS4-MOS on PowerUP comparision, we have to wait for AOS 4 for Classic and try to yourself.
Don't beleive at anyone experience . . . they "often" lies
EDIT- and just for clarify my opinions about MOS for PowerUP:
I've NEVER said to trow in the bin AmigaOS and use MOS instead (go figure!).
I'm only saying (since the beginning), try it, just for the sake of. (NOT the first releasse due the well known issues)
Reduce all you can (TTF fonts, antialias, heavy skin, alpha blending) and you will get an useable PPC OS (not as responsive as AmigaOS but enjoable)
I'm still using everyday on my CSPPC200Mhz with CVPPC and i'm "quite" happy.
YAM-MOS fly and even IBrowse under Trance, is fast as before.
If you have a PowerUP card and a spare little partition, try it, tweeks a little bit and enjoy, until . . .AOS4 will be gold ;-)

A BlizzardPPC/BlizzardVision isn't exactly "fast" so try to use other skins (use a simple one like the OS4 default one) and change your MUI settings (avoid using gradients everywhere). Do not activate thumbnail view of images.
