And it is really good too :-)
I did some inofficial benchmarks with Petunia, and the 68k emulation is now about 20 times faster :-)
-
So, What's new? What's better?
Does the new 68k emulation offer better compatability along with speed? Is the other emulation still there?
-
oh, looks like I got some downloading to do!!
-
come on how about an unnofficial review sombody....? :-D

It's still there. As far as I know there is a black list of programs not working with JIT, and a separate prefs program to turn off JIT for problematic applications.
Anyway, the update seems to be a major one with interesting features. Good to see it's coming along.

@Panthro
first unofficial review (http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=17496&forum=14)

Many thinks! :-)
The JIT Emulator is very fast. Up to a factor of 15 faster. :-)
All programms 68k what i need works with JIT. Draw Studio, ArtEffect, Cinema4D etc.
What's new:
- Warp3D is great and works fast on my Radeon 9000.
- A Screeblanker prefs with cool new screenblankers.
- Faster 2D graphics
- updatet prefs, for jit(new), input, uboot, amigainput, dos etc.
and much more...
-
I really have to get my finger out and try to get the A1 up and running again.
The thought of HD-Rec running under JIT is extremely enticing.
-

Any chance you could try this with HD-Rec?
I'd like to know how many more effects plug-ins can be run.
I would do it myself but my A1 is up on the blocks.

@Wilse
Your answer is here (http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=17496&forum=14).

I WANT HARDWARE TO RUN THIS ON!!!!!!!
ARGGGGGGG!!!!!!
DYING HERE!!!!!!! :ak47: :destroy: :whack:
-
Tell me about it!! When the A1s came out originally, I didn't havethe money... Now I do (andthe OS is in much better shape too), but I can't get one! Rocks and hard places come to mind...
-
Yea, Hardware situation sucks big time!
Now that they've made this update it makes me think that maybe there is some kind of plan to have future hardware besides the A1 to run OS4 on.
I mean all this hard work couldnt be for just a hand full of people with A1's?
-
Yea, Hardware situation sucks big time!
The hardware situation has never been better - Efika, Mac Mini, Pegasos II, cheap 2nd hand PPC Macs on eBay by the bucketload thanks to Apple going Intel.
Cheap, powerful hardware capable of running OS4 is abundant - it's the licensing situation that people ought to be complaining about.

We can only hope so! OS4 is looking better all the time. It would be madness to put all of this work and effort in and then see it come to nothing.

Tell me about it!. I'm typing this on my Mac Mini. I would be happy running any PPC Amiga OS on this machine. I'm sure it would fly.
-
And very nice it is too. :-) Well done to all at Hyperion and those who contributed.
-
Is odd that they dont abolish the weird licensing crap now that the situation is what it is..
They should have just ported it to macs..
-
Tomas - maybe you and a group of users could petition Hyperion and/or Amiga Inc into doing so...

@ Hyperion
Nice work. Thanks for your continued efforts.

Amiga users have being doing so for years.
-
Hyperion can not see the forest for the trees.
-
Are there some release notes somewhere?
-
@Xeron:
Nice - six fx and no cpu load?
Sounds almost too good to be true.
-
Trouble is you'd have to also petition Apple. it is their hardware, and after all, they already have a commercial (ie not freeware) OS on it.
slight change of tack:
anyone installed off the iso image file ? I managed to mount it last night with MountISO (neat stuff ! impressed myself) was just wondering if it was possible, or if I'd better go buy a CD bonner !
-
@agafaster
What has running OS4 on a Mac got to do with Apple? People run Linux on Apple hardware all the time, and they don't have to get permission from Apple first. Why would OS4 be any different?
I was thinking of getting a PegasOS before reading the review of update 4 (above). Now I think I'll wait til I can get an OS4 machine. But how long :-(
