Thanks to Andreas Magerl of apc-tcp, IntuitionBase.com is proud to bring you the demo of Desert Racing of Bardos.
Please point your browsers to www.IntuitionBase.com/DesertRacingDemo.lha (http://www.intuitionbase.com/DesertRacingDemo.lha) and download the game right away.
And for those who downloaded the corrupted archive please get www.IntuitionBase.com/DesertRacingDemo-fix.lha (http://www.intuitionbase.com/DesertRacingDemo-fix.lha).
Note: We don't guarantee it will work on OS4, we are just hosting the demo as a Christmas gift to the Amiga Community.

Under WinUAE emulation is very slow, even on a 3.2Ghz CPU. Running on an actual AGA compatible Amiga is highly recommended.
-
Wrong, it crawls on both of my A4000
Have to contact APC and ask if they shouldn't consider making a PPC version instead.
I'm highly dissapointed here.
The game does 2fps in both AGA and RTG.
-
Also 2 fps in E-UAE on 933MHz A1-XE - works, but unplayable.
Edit: using the CGX version I get 3-4 fps.
-
It ran quite fast (80-200fps using the default settings) on my Athlon XP2400+ under WinUAE with JIT (could only get the AGA version to work though, the CGX one crashed).
The game controls is as crappy as they were in the early Flyin High demo though :/
-
If this is how slow the actual game runs on actual hardware, why on earth would they release it?
Surely this is only a flaw with the demo?
-
Nope, have the full version here
-
What ? Why release a unplayable game ?? And they mention " at least 030/25"!? Amigaz: 060 right ?
-
Yes...look at my signature
Tested the game on both of my A4000 which has different '060 CPU's and one has a Cybervision 64 and the other one Mediator with a Voodoo 5
-
Are the opening sequences realtime? If so, I *do* understand the slowness, it's like 1x1 or 2x2 pixel mode, which is amazing, and the polygon count is very high... it looks like a video though.
Also, why the hell release an unplayable game... they are charging $35USD!
-
You tell me.
Still havent heard anyone that have tried it on a real amiga
-
Ouch... 4/5 FPS on the AGA version, 3/4 on the CGX, that's on a 1260/50 Mediator setup.
Menu access is extremely slow too, it takes quite some time and clicking before you can actually race... well, race... not with an average of 4 FPS.
-
this game runs all too fast on my WinUAE setup. AMIKIT XP3000 2Gig ram Gforce6800 ultra. i havent had time to test it on my amiga 1200 yet but i dont think i will get it running as slow as 2fps the UAE did perhapps 200 fps leaving the game unplayable i ran CGX.exe with a res 320x240 or something using uaegfx. i had no control in turns so they simply came to fast.
Adonay :-D

Just downloaded the demo quite large!
Tryed it on my 4000 with 060 mediator voodoo3.
After the long demo sequence(lade, lade, lade) got to the game in a low resolution voodoo mode.
Got about 4 FPS and that is a optimistic number.
Real unplayable they won't sell many copies me think.

Have reported the problem to APC's support forum and I'm told they'll come up with a patch that will sort of the speed problem.
-
We have the first Patch for the gfx-board DEMOversion from Desert Racing. We hope we found with this patch the problem.
When you like have this patch, please write a email to Andreas@apc-tcp.de with the Subject "Desert Racing".
-
I can tell you guys that the demo patch works.
it even cut down the loading times, everything went smooth...would be great though if the scrolling was a bit smoother in the game..maybe some fine tuning is needed for the final patch
