Title: TroikaNG: Update of the homepage with frequent asked questions
Post by: System on September 30, 2005, 03:17:13 AM
At the homepage of TroikaNG the first questions and answers were entered. Therefore AGP is cancelled because except for the Articia northbridge only the IBM chip CPC 925 offers this function, but it doesn't work with the cpu chosen for the Amy'05 board.

Regarding to the final consumer price 400 British pounds would have been a very careful estimation, but in theory it could also come to 400 US dollarss (ca. 330 EUR at present).

Read the TroikaNG FAQ (http://www.troikang.com/faq.html)

Now I am not a critic of Troika and certainly not a critic of Amiga in general.  However - Amy'05.  Is this a realistic "year" for the distribution of this new hardware- and what implications does this have on the average Amiga user.  Will we be running AOS4 or Linux (at least for the time being)?

Silly as this sounds.  I love Linux - but I don't want to run Linux on PPC, I want AOS4.

Out of curiousity - will this PPC board be able to run Fedora?  This [for me] would be the only thing to make me rush out and buy it.

Which, currently available, graphic cards are compatible?

I love the premis and I love what Troika are doing but these (I hope) are words that they should look upon as wisdom.

"Information is a fantastic thing when communicated effectively"

Don't let your audience down and let us know what systems we are capable of building and using.  Learn from Amiga's mistakes and remove the cloud that shields factual information from the rumour and mis-truth.  This will encourage trust and encourage people to be more willing to buy your product.

I already believe in this product (more than any in almost a decade) Lets move ahead.  I just hope they are not let down by Hyperion, who I am sure are creating a fantastic OS, but their schedules have slipped and slipped over recent years and I just hope they can deliver, a finished product, for Troika.

As for KMOS.  Do they have any input or opinions into this motherboard?

I will stop now because there are too many questions to ask and too few people to answer.

@Magic-Merl

Dec 2005 is maybe too optimistic for this project. Protos must be made, U-Boot must be ported to this board, board needs testing and debugging...

For comparison how long it took for Eyetech/MAI to get mA1/Teron Mini to market? Or how long it took for bPlan to get Peg2 shipping?

Well, what PCI video cards does OS 4.0 support?

The ATI Radeon 9250 should work. I think it has been mentioned recently. Though a list would be nice for prospective buyers.

"...hypothetically Amy'05 could retail at an estimated price of $400 US..."

Ok ok, I'm happy now :-D

The price of Amy is definately not an issue.  It's probably the only thing that has held me back from buying an A1.

Wonder what Eyetech are thinking right now.  They must be wondering why they ever tried to rip off the Amiga buying public, using low volume sales as an excuse.  Granted they have costs to cover and I am sure that Eyetech have made a reasonable return on the A1 (otherwise why bother)! but I am sure they are looking at their business model and thinking S**t.

Watch this space.  The A1 is going to drop in price to a more respectable level. I will predict a pre-christmas price reduction or at the very least a new year sale.  If Troika manage to release a product pre-2006, it will pip Eyetech to the post and sell in respectable volumes.
