Title: AmigaOS 4 chanced to work with PPC-Prozessor IBM 405
Post by: System on September 06, 2005, 05:32:52 PM
Some visitors of the "Pianeta Amiga" (03.-04.Sep., Empoli,Italy) reports that OS4-developer Andrea Vallinotto notified during his presentation that he chanced the PPC-system to work with a IBM-CPU PPC405.

The IBM 405 (http://www-3.ibm.com/chips/techlib/techlib.nsf/products/PowerPC_405_Embedded_Cores) PPC-CPU works in mobile systems or for embedded Appliances with a frequence round about 200Mhz.

OK. What does "chanced to work" mean? Did Andrea say something along the lines of (in Italian), "There's a chance it will work?" As in, "There's a [slim] chance it will run on a 6502?" :-) Just curious.

(Personally, I think OS4 will be running in an emulator long before it makes economic sense to purchase a PowerPC board.)

...and the length of time it's taking to produce.  x86 is already beginning to emulate PPC well enough to be usable.
