Very nice video
OS4 looking good
:-P :-P :-D

Not a bad site either. :-)

Gah!!! the evil firewall here at work doesn't allow Mpeg downloads :-(
-
Hey!!! I got to see it :)
That was nice. Ws that an Amiga mouse pointer I could see?
-
Looks good - and impressed with Debian booting times.

Interesting. On the Windows XP machine here at work, I was unable to get more than about 6kbps download rate and it died after about 4mb. I switched over to my SunBlade and got around 86kbps and it finished downloading. They're on the same network and supposedly the Crateway is 4 times faster than the Sun (2.6GHZ vs. 650MHZ).
Good video, I can't wait to get OS4 running on my 1200.

Looking good, yeah. But I am quite concerned about the graphics performance. Before you begin screaming and yelling at me: yes, I have read the text alongside the video. It is an alpha release of AOS4, with lots of delaying factors still built in. On the other hand, this is a 933 MHz G4, with a fast Voodoo 3, and lots of memory bandwidth. Such a system is not a slouch and that makes me wonder about what is going on internally.
Of course, I am not going to condemn a system in alpha stage. Let's just say that the video shows there is really a lot of room for improvement, and that I have full confidence that the finished system will do justice to the hardware which is powering it.

The graphics system isnt yet PPC native. Currently, the interpreted emulation runs at 10% of native speed. I dont know if this means we'll see a 10x speed up, but it should be significantly faster when graphics.library and Picasso96 are PPC native.

Oh i feel a butt coming on :-D

Thanks. :-)

It's mostly the emulation of graphics.library and Picasso96. All of those components use lots of small functions, and when these are called repeadetly, the performance breaks in because the overhead of the actual emulation switch adds up.
Currently, we're converting the graphics system to PPC. This unfortunately takes time, as it's the most hardware dependant part of the whole system, and we want to keep the AGA compatibility on the classic systems

Of course there is. If it wasn't, it would alread be out :-D

well heh, first of all people should know what an emu is , but i am really looking forward to see this beeing faster than on my 3.9bb2 setup, i mean thats when i will go screaming :D
anyway i am glad people are allowed to show more and more and this proves to many that its infact beeing improved.
one concern tough, where is the reaction stuff? (RAWbinfo) etc..
cheers
