Title: major slowdowns with amp?
Post by: detz on October 15, 2003, 10:22:49 PM
Never had problems playing mp3s before (ppc160) but now for some reason amp slows down gradually after the song has been playing for a while. Also happens with video files too.

Have you updated it recently (I've never used amp so I wouldn't know if theres an update or anything), maybe there are memory leaks in the update.

Just a shot in the dark really  :-)

my guess is, overheating!

remove desktop case if u have that... put a fan (big on it)  check that old orginal fan still works , and check if its SLOW'r than before.
if you dont remeber , put a new fan where old one was.

goodluck!

Now you're making things up, PPC 603 CPUs don't have overheat-throttling.

If the CPU is getting too hot, the system will just hang.

could be right about overheating- ive got my case off, but it is still roasty toasy hot!
And yeah especially with videos, it will just hang if i leave it.
Dig an old psu fan out then i guess...

Are you using AmigaAmp or Amplifier? I couldn't get Amplifier to work properly, it would play the mp3 but crash after a while, so i got rid of it and got the much better AmigaAmp and used Warp Up mode! :-)

It couldn't also be AHI not configured properly, causing slowdowns, crashing and poor quality. And of course it could be overheating issues as well. I have a Blizzard PPC 160/060@50mhz plus a Blizzardvision and i use a Power Tower to keep this in and i get no problems with heat. Although i am thinking about putting a fan on my Blizzardvision.

What spec Blizzard PPC do you own? My advice, get a tower case and a better PSU!
