Title: AmiPodder: Amiga Podcast Receiver Public Beta
Post by: rhino on May 14, 2005, 04:39:37 PM
I've just released the first public beta of my Amiga podcast receiver called AmiPodder.  If you've not heard of it before, podcasting is a way of distributing audio programmes (usually in MP3 format) with minimal infrastructure. Using a client like AmiPodder you can subscribe to a podcast feed and then receive each program as it is published.

AmiPodder is written in AREXX using rxMUI and interfaces with a browser or download manager to download the podcasts and then with AmigaAMP or TuneNet to play them back. It can also sync podcasts to an external device such as a portable MP3 player.

To download AmiPodder and for more information please visit my AmiPodder web page (http://www.seal-amiga.co.uk/robert/amipodder/index.html").

Hi,

You need to remove the " at the end of your link.
Program looks alright, downloaded it and will give it a try.

Ciao, Trev Daley.

AREXX eh?  I seem to recall many years ago talk of an AREXX compiler.  Anybody remember that?

@boing

The only "compilers" I've seen wrap the script inside such executable header that it saves the script to temp location and then executes it.

Even I wrote such tool. It's no compiler though.

@Piru : yep, not compilers, just boring hacks to crypt the arexx or just reduce the size of the script with tips !

At the moment AmiPodder is certainly not compiled :-). In fact I think there is quite a lot of optimisation I can do in later beta versions, especially the XML parser is quite slow at the moment (although its not too bad on the short XML files normally found in podcast feeds).

I also wanted to mention that I have started an AmiPodder mailing list on Yahoo Groups to provide support and so I can more easily announce when new versions are available.
