From Hyperion's website:
"Leuven, Belgium - 2. February, 2005
Registered users of both AmigaOS 4.0 and Quake 2 can now find a first OS4-Native build of Quake 2 in our download area. Note that this version is restricted to software rendering but should otherwise be fully functional.
Enjoy!"
The next update for OS4 prerelease should be out soon.

ikir:(next pre release upd)it could contain w3d... maybe you should have made that as an own comment ?
-
Should probably go and buy myself a copy, then...
-
matt_h: yes i think you should too :-D
-
@ Matt_H
Make sure you install it on a classic Amiga first and the transfer the complete installation to the A1, as the original Installscript fails under OS4. Had to do that myself. Runs absolut fine on my micro, though it still looks quite ugly in softwarerender.
-
Ah, you guys are too hard on software rendering! I used to run Quake2 on a PC with no 3D card. It's perfectly enjoyable with a high resolution ;-)

Is there an updated Installer supplied with the OS4 Quake II archive?
-
amipal: no but you dont need an installer.
just unpack the os4 archive and insert the quake 2 cdrom and copy the the baseq2 dir with pak files (and the files inside the dirs) into the baseq2 dir your os4 quake2 archive had.
basically the dir structure will end up like this:
Quake2:
Wizard , ahi.dll (etc)
Baseq2 (dir)
Pak0
Pak1
etc.
just make sure you dont over write the files on the cd with the files in the os4 archive , as ofcourse you will need the files from the os4 archive :-)
basic stuff and its a tad slower than extracted but with sfs and a dma card you wont notice any big changes.
(slow as in disk speed while loading maps etc, not ingame playing slow downs)
cheers

@Toaks
Yes you're right. I hope is clear anyway that it is my comment. It is not part of the announce, it isn't between the ".
Sorry.
-
ikir: its not my prob , im just tired of thoose "january is over, i want my upd , feburary is over i want my upd etc... threads"
(and that comment in the news could have triggered such..but i guess anything could....theese days... :-) )
(i think most are :-D)

Erm, I have to remark that this is a bit optimistic. I can't even say when the next update is going to come, it all depends on a lot of factors. Right now I would say it's still about a month away at least.
-
rogue: aint it like that always? :-D
-
@Rogue
Sorry! As "soon" i was thinking about 1-2 months anyway.
-
Great.
Where is the best place to obtain Quake 2 and Descent?
I haven't bought a game for ages and don't play them these days but these announcements have aroused my interest.
-
@Wilse
I suppose you need the AmigaOS version to use the update. Maybe i'm wrong....
-
wilse:AmigaKit.co.uk ? or the german or swedish alternatives?
they have them in stock if they aint sold out yet.
once u get them you will need to register them on the hyperion website and os4 too then you can download the os4 native versions.
cheers
-
Thanks, I'll have a look.
Already have OS4 registered on Hyp. website.

@rogue
will OS4 version of QUAKE II support any of the mission packs?..ie ( ground zero & the reckoning..
all QUAKE I mission packs..
this also goes to all of hyperion games *if* & *when* released..
FREESPACE...silent threat & darkness rising..
SIN...wages of sin..
-
Very good news. :)

Only those ATM that don't require any special game dll. If it is "just" levels and data files, it should work. Anything else needs to be recompiled.
Quake I mission packs will not work with Quake 2.
About Silent Thread, dunno, if it works without any additional patches to the binary, it should work with the Amiga version.
-
@rogue
thanks for the reply..
i also ment OS4 QUAKE I working with mission packs like malice, aftershock, shrak ect..
thanks again..
keep up the good work..
-
@ delshay
Quake 1 mission packs work on any Quake 1 platform because their code is written in a scripting language.
Quake 2 requires modifications that are written in C, so to use them on the Amiga, you need to have a natively compiled version.
-
God work, :-D
I'm going to order this one next month,
this month is not a good one my
pockets are empty
:-(
-
gday ppl i can only play Q2 for a couple of mins then i get grim reaper with dsi problem any ideas or anyone else with same prob?
-
poweramiga:no i never seen this released beta crashing. (and belive me i have tested it for hours upon hours :-) )
-
Stack size?

Hi!
I just wonder how nice it would be with OS4 warp3d
and Quake2, is Warp3D and Quake2 much faster than softwares rendered graphics on Amiga Quake2??
how much difference is it, in speed compared???
Have Hyperion any plans for recompile mods for quake2?
like Terror, Action quake or all the Amiga warpos mods??
Hope my dreams come true???????
I want a counterstrike like mod for Amiga Quake2!!!!
-
plexus:
ofcourse W3d will be faster than sw render , w3d is hw accelerated gfx.
