Is the headline for an article about Amiga and a review of MorphOS and the Pegasos II in recent issue of the swedish computer magazine Datormagazin.
Further they says; The best Amiga ever made.
The magazine is one of the biggest computer magazine in Sweden, and is also one of the most multifaceted, with a lot of interesting reading if you have interest in computing. Is available to purchase in shops from today, (price SEK 64:50). It should be available also in Denmark, Norway and Finland.

Doesn't anyone do English anymore? I think it is great that Amiga seems to be getting attention in Europe. It certainly isn't here in the USA, if it isn't Microsoft then it doesn't exist here as far as the media is concerned. But, I would love to read some thigns on Amiga in ENGLISH!!! ARGG!!!! POOOO!!!!!
-
hmm they could at least have published that article before the official death of morphos..

I fear Amiga doesn't get any serious attention(in mainstream press) in Europe either..
But, I would love to read some thigns on Amiga in ENGLISH!!! ARGG!!!! POOOO!!!!!
Have you read the Ars Technica A1/Os4 review (http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/amiga.ars)?

Good article, thank! I am one of the "one the edge" old time Amiga users. I have not got the new A1 yet and I am still in a "wait and see" mode. I got bit by Amgia before and then BeOS. So, I am a little gun shy... That and I do hope the prices come down some. I know they will never be "cheap" but it is just a little to up there for me to be an early adopter right now. All in all it looks really good.
Keeping fingers crossed....

MorphOS isn't dead. Development is continuing.
-
Miracle Max: He probably owes you money huh? I'll ask him.
Inigo Montoya: He's dead. He can't talk.
Miracle Max: Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.
Inigo Montoya: What's that?
Miracle Max: Go through his clothes and look for loose change.

errr.. you are either very easily influenced by everthing you read in user forums or are delusional.
MorphOS is far from DEAD. Development continues daily. Wake up and get a clue

hmm then maybe I should say "morphos for pegasos"? I don't know, and I don't want to start a flamewar here and I'm not influenced by either side.. But would you say this (http://amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2005-01-00108-EN.html) message is fake?
-
Take that to the forums. Stay on topic, talk about the article. You have been warned.
-
Getting back to the topic. Death must refer to the death of commodore in 1994 and the death of AOS classic in 2001? It is good to see after all this time that there is new life springing up with the Pegasos and the A1's. :-D
-
I'm a bit confused here...
This is an article about a rave review of MorphOS and Pegasos II in a major magazine, so surely correcting someone who says that MorphOS (the subject of the article) is dead is about as on-topic as it gets?
Or should we stick to commenting on his writing style and grammar? Otherwise it's pretty hard to talk about an article without mentioning the contents.
@rayt
That message is real but things have happened since which have brought MOS back from the brink (agreements have been reached with certain parties, and Ambient has been released under GPL.)
-
I just don't want to see a 90 post argument where it's just "Mos is DEAD!" "No it is NOT!" "Yes, it it is!" "NO, it is NOT!".
So, What has changed? Other than Ambient is now GPL? Agreements with what parties about what? Genesi seems to have washed its hands of Morphos. So, I guess it's back to unpaid deveopment? What of Morphos 1.5?
-
@lando, argo

As I stated above, that wasn't my attention at all. I was just curious because having read news like the one I mentioned made me thinking Morphos was officially dead (at least on amiga like platforms). I'm sure I'm not the only one who got that impression, and if it isn't true I think this is even more sad and needs to be clarified.
Its not like I'm a red troll that tries to bash morphos here or something similar. I think/hope the times of red troll vs. blue troll wars are over now anyway.. Maybe not on Ann and Moobunny, but I don't (want to) know ;-)

Yes I have heard that too (and that they wrote "more to come" in the source).. But doesn't ralph schmidt own the major/essential parts of morphos (e.g. kernel and low level stuff)? I guess I'm not the only one who barely has a clue what is or will be going on with MOS, and I think many users would appreciate a statement from the developers to clear up things..
-
No, I don't think your a troll. It's just take I didn't want the stage to be set for a troll to jump in and start spiraling it out of control.
Lack of communication form the Morphos developers has been the main problem in the last year. No one with any authority knew what was going on and for the most part people don't know what is happening now. That's one of the reasons someone posted the IRC log, as I understand it.

Yes, that is my understanding. According to the IRC log he's off developing that part, the Morphos core, for the embedded market. Ambient is now open source, GPL license. Theres seems to have been a deal struck with MUI, not sure exactly what. According to the IRC log, the MUI developer wanted to release MUI 4.0 for Morphos, Amiga OS 4.0, and Amiga Classics. With Morphos getting a free full license. Which Raplph Schmidt didn't like as he felt it would take away Morphos' unique look. How you do that on a skinable GUI, I don't know. Though I wonder what deal was made with MUI.
Now with MUI and Open Source Ambient, Morphos now has a GUI again. That's about all I've been able to piece together.
-
How you do that on a skinable GUI, I don't know.
As far as I know, Ambient is an MUI app, unlike workbench, and this makes Ambient skinable. Seemed they wanted the unique features of the full MUI to be MorphOS exclusive, to maintain the uniqueness of the OS.

Kan Amigan ha återuppstått från de döda?
Is that the heading ?, would it not have been more accurate to say "Could the Amiga have risen from the dead ?" ?
So the old amiga magazine has gone from a small publication to one of the biggest aswell, and yet it has only 1/3 of Computer Swedens circulation, and several other computer magazines have bigger circulation aswell... Wishful thinking in all kinds of ways i say...
-
Skinning features in MorphOS are limited to windows and screens only (i.e. borders, menus etc.). Buttons and listviews are MUI's and not directly connected to skinning.
But there is an agreement now and things have settled down.

It should be better that you do read the article before supposing...

MorphOS is far from DEAD. Development continues daily. Wake up and get a clue
development ON MorphOS may continue..but MorphOS itself is probably what he was referring to.
From what I read (when I'm not watching TV, not coding, after I fix my hair, after I eat, if I'm not sleepin) on morphzone that nothing is going on with it.
-
And they say ignorance is bliss. Take me, for instance. I think MorphOS was that guy on Tony Hart's art show. I believe he was made of plastecine...
But anyway. This A1 deserves to do well. It's best selling point will be that you can surf the Internet and you aren't all that likely to get a virus. Saves the $90 a year for Norton antiVirus...

The_Power_of_the_Ginger:
Yep !

Could the Swedish speakers please let us non-Swedish speakers (not to mention no access to magazine) know the basics of the article?
-
Argo:
Yes, I will come back with an as objective report as possible, back soon.
Edit:
I think you can go to this thread on ann for getting a picture of it.
