Title: AROS gets Native TCP/IP Stack
Post by: System on January 21, 2005, 06:19:00 AM
The bounty for a native TCP/IP stack for AROS has been completed with the code having been commited to CVS.

See aros-exec.org (http://aros-exec.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=428&post_id=3677&order=0&viewmode=flat&pid=0&forum=2#forumpost3677) for more.

Best news I've heard in a while.

Great news! :-)

Any chance of a MOS port?

Based on AmiTCP?
So ,basically, they've already make OS-hacks for AROS, or is it actually intergrated into the OS?

Before MOS(R.I.P.) and OS4? Amazing.

-Edit-
I've been corrected, OS4 has a stack.

This is absolutely fabulous news!

May the world remember this is the day that AROS was born.

Congratulations to everyone involved.

Now sit back and see what happens.

@redurmloa

Roadshow (TCP/IP stack) has been in OS4 since the first public release.

@AROS guys

Nice work :-8). Might have to give aros a whirl on an old
PC (hope the Virge is supported).

@bodie

Spring for an old Geforce card, then you'll have hardware acceleration.

Soon.  Give the Devs a bit of time to get this code squared away, it was just added to the cvs less then 24 hours ago.  3Com and Intel 100 (plus the prism) drivers should be released in the next couple of weeks (or sooner), if I'm reading the tea leaves properly.  Olivier is shipping Neil a 8029 card for prometheus driver wrapper.

As usual, most current info is over on

AROS-exec.org (http://aros-exec.org/modules/news/).

Aros-exec

I am having problems logging into Aros-exec.

I put in my user name and password and I get the "Thank you for logging in DFergATL" and then it goes back to the main page but I am not logged in.  I have tried  multipul time for the last few hours.

?????

 :-?

@Jim:

OS4 already had a TCP/IP stack.

-EDIT-
Bodie already told you that. :-)

Delete your aros-exec cookies.

Yes, I saw the thread on the board some time after I  did this post.  Ok now.

Now, when will the ISO's be updated to include it?

The nightly builds from AROS (http://www.aros.org) should contain it now.  For AROS-Max, I believe CoolCat is planning a mid Feb release.  Give it a bit of time, Devs are working on bug hunting.

Great news!!!
:pint::pint::pint:
This will allow AROS to take off :-D

I'm using the PC as a gateway, since the USB modem (http://www.ipmdatacom.it/download/adsl-usb-ita.htm) I have, won't work with my A4000. Any plans to have dialer/modem drivers with this TCP stack (like miami) or should I use it behind a LAN/router?

Till AROS has a USB stack, won't work either with AROS. :(

I believe Fabio is (or was) toying the the idea of doing a pppd port.  For now, I'm just waiting on couple of NIC drivers that will be submitted to the cvs sometime soon.

Make sure it isn't one of those thin socks, those are useless.

Yes, you're right! One step at the time. I've just got very excited, and even if I have USB ports (Algor) & an USB stack (poseidon) on my miggy, the damn modem won't even power on! I think it's a matter of drivers (http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/index.php?lang=en) for the specific chipset.

Anyhow, the TCP for AROS is a MUST, and now the portings will come one after another to make a complete system (AWeb, etc etc.) for the simple user (not just developers).

Kudos again to the AROS team.
