I am happy to announce the release of an updated Remote Desktop client that works with OS4 and OS 3.9.
Remote desktop (using the rdp protocol) allows an Amiga computer to connect, via full screen or a window, to a Windows XP Pro computer or Windows server for remote control of that system. Similar in concept to VNC.
Thanks to everyone who helped with this port and of course the main programmer Martin Blom!

Sounds very interesting and certainly very useful. I've downloaded the client and had a look at the readme file, but to be honest I'm not completely clear on how to set everything up with it.
If anyone else downloads this client and manages to set it up properly I'd appreciate it if we could have a chat about it so I can set mine up as well and give it a try.

This is fantastic. Usage is simple. On the command line, just type: rdesktop
For example: rdesktop 10.10.10.5
Icon tooltypes work as well. I'm using this on OS 3.9, and will be trying it on OS4 later on. - Lars

Awesome. I've been wanting this for some time.
-
FANTASTIC! I'm itching to get it installed. Nice work. :-D
-
Well, it does work. Quite well, really. I can't get it to allocate greater than an 8-bit screen, though. :-( (Amiga 4000/060/CyberGFX4/CV3D/OS3.9)

@logicalheart:
I've already tried that but unfortunately I just get an error: Connection Refused.
What information do you normally put in for "username"? I wondered if the username was supposed to be the Windows Network ID, but I really don't know. And do you need to specify a password? I wouldn't have thought Windows would just let you in as easily as that?

Ah - I can see that there's some information on the website. I'll follow that and give it a try.

This is GREAT news!!! I will try it at once when I get home!

Excellent.
Just what the Amiga needs! :-D Will have to d/l have a go now!
Thanks for your work.

EDIT: Double post

DAMN that kicks!!
well now I can play Doom3 on my amiga.....LOL
no seriously I recon this could be just what I needed to really pee off my WinXP-pro using friend. :-D
I like practical jokes I do :smack:

This is so funny. I'm playing Yahoo Launchcast 300k streaming audio on WinXP and piping it through RDesktop and it's coming out the Amiga speakers. It sounds great. Woohoo! Maybe this is my new KVM solution so I could put away the WinXP keyboard, mouse, monitor and speakers too! Hahaha! - Lars

After visiting the website I managed to get mine up and running fine as well. It's actually faster than I thought it would be - I've got mine running in full depth full screen mode on a window on my Amiga desktop and it's very useable. That's on a classic setup with BPPC/060.
This is extremely useful for me. Previously I always used my Amiga as my main machine and then swapped over to the PC for certain tasks that required software which wasn't available on my Amiga. Now I'll rarely need to leave the Amiga at all, which is excellent!

Any ideas of the XP (Pro) services that should be enabled (some are edited to manual, or even disabled)?
I have clicked & added a user to the "MyComputer" icon, enabling the remote desktop, but the connection is still refused.
P.S. No external fw, SP2.

Have you went into the windows firewall (internal in your control panel) and checked on the box for remote desktop there to make sure that the port is open there. Also you need to make sure that your router doesn't block this port as well (it will become evident what that port number is by examining the windows firewall).. Also, does your xp pro have a log in name and password account set up other than administrator?
-
-The RemoteDesktop is checked (WinFW prefs)
-No router, miami is set to fw all the ports (works fine with vnc, and other client/servers)
-A user within the admin group, plus Guest accoun. None works, all connections refused.
I suspect some disabled service (are there some dipendencies, daemons that should be started before a RD session?)
Fixed! I had disabled the Terminal Services (http://www.theeldergeek.com/terminal_services.htm), that's why the connection failed.
It's really fast, even faster than VNC (especially the mouse pointer) :-D.
Thanx for the help/suggestions.

@ All:
Glad you guys enjoy the software! I really wanted to
release it also for OS 3.9, as I still have a
Amiga 4000 - so that is why I commissioned a
68k ixemul clean port.
But for those OS4 users you will be happy to learn
that there now is an OS4 native port that solves
some of the issues when running under OS4...I am
hopeful it can be released soon.
