Alive is a bit pretentious, to say the least. But the really weirdest thing would be to see KMOS wish us a happy new year in a couple days. Been ages since we heard anything from them.

Guys?

I realize that a healthy dose of skepticism whereas announcements from Amiga Inc is concerned is fully warranted, but the only thing that has been accomplished by making such remarks here is to reinforce Amiga Inc's opinion to never speak publicly to this community.

The fact is that we don't know anything about what's going on at KMOS/Amiga Inc any more.  In my opinion;

1) We don't need to, because he have no inherent right to know anything.  Until they're ready to release ANYTHING, it's really none of our business.  With years of trashing Amiga Inc in the forums, we've lost any rights we might have ever had to be on "the inside".

2) If things are being done at Amiga Inc, them "shutting up and working" is probably the smartest thing they've ever done, even if it has allowed people (misguided by other companies) to gang up and trash them into obscurity.  This community has proven time and time again that our reactions and "myopic pedantism" to pick apart and twist every word spoken makes us unworthy of any trust whatsoever.

Invariably, someone will now start whining about "$50 scams".  Give it up.  We all know the history of {bleep} and things that have gone on, but the immature actions of the online Amiga community (at large) are 10 times more of an embarrassment to the memory of Jay Miner and the Amiga than anything McEwen and crew might have ever done.

In my opinion, when they release a product, they should reintroduce themselves to the community and make amends for the past.  Until then, as I said, silence is the best thing they ever could do.

Oh, and by the way, Merry Christmas.

Wayne

The Amiga Store is closed until January/2005. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Is an announcement imminent?

Oh, who am I kidding.

Ok. Going back to my happy place now. (http://64.33.47.100/images/a1000anim.gif)

We will have to agree to disagree on this on Wayne.  The lies and scams preformed against the community would be, IMO, far worse to Jay Miner's honor then anything the end users have ever said.  If anything, the rabid attacks against Bill and Fleecy would prove what Jay Miner work is indeed created long term support by those who enjoyed Miner's product.

Really?  Imagine KMOS reintroducing the Amiga Inc staff with Irving Gould and Medhi Ali as the new CEO and President of Amiga Inc.  Would most Amiga Users be horrified to hear that?  Gould brought the Amiga up to million unit sales, and then with Ali, botched it all up. :pissed:  Yet look at Bill and Fleecy, they had done zero for us, except "On Schedule and Rock'ng" plus the $50 coupons while subcontracting out WB 3.9.

IMNSHO, I Much rather have Gould and Ali back in charge of Amiga Inc.  Matter of semi-incompetent vs utter incompetence and dishonesty.

@dammy,

Simply different viewpoints leading to the same destination.  Neither of us are wrong, nor right here.

There is another eerily similar parallel I could draw here, but I digress.

While I've heard all the opinions and urban legends regarding Gould and Ali, I -- like you -- actually "know" very little of what really happened.  It's easy to sit in our computer chairs and come up with theories and conjecture, but neither of us were there.

*We* (the armchair judges) do not *know* what type of pressures (both internal and external) were there in 1994/95 to cause the demise of Commodore, and we don't *know* what went through the mind of either Gould or Ali.  Not defending them, just pointing out another potential viewpoint.

In my experience, I have learned where the Amiga is concerned, incompetence is at least curable.  In my opinion, even with McEwen at the helm (no comment on Moss), there's still the potential for them to make amends.  As I said, if they are still working on stuff, their silence where the "community" is concerned is simply the best thing they can do right now.

My biggest problem with the silence is that it leaves other groups and malcontents free to harm and divide the community for their own purposes.  Unfortunately there's simply nothing that Amiga Inc CAN say right now (even Merry Christmas apparently) which doesn't get intentionally snide comments from certain people.

Well sad to say Amiga Inc has brought the attacks on them. They have done to many things that a lot of people just cant understand. I was shocked to see them post a greeting here myself. I was sure someone hacked into the web site myself.

Hi Wayne,

Merry Christmas to you and the staff of Amiga.org.

I hope the New Year will be good to you (and us too) :-)

See you in the new year (cyber-speaking that is..)

@Acill,

I don't think anyone's foolish enough to pretend that Amiga Inc is innocent here.  They've made more mistakes -- primarily in the handling of the community -- than anyone is entitled to.

I'm not suggesting that we should all forgive and forget the past, I'm just stating that

1) silence != "dead"
2) this community is so rabid right now that being quiet is the best thing that Amiga Inc (KMOS/whatever) could do.  The community has shown (and even shows in this thread) that it doesn't deserve to know anything about what's going on, because all we do is tear every word apart and twist it.

Even worse, some people INTENTIONALLY twist and dement every word from Amiga Inc because they think it helps "support" their chosen platform.  Unfortunately the only thing they're accomplishing is to destroy the chances for either platform to survive.

Where we should all be working together to support a common goal, we're working against each other to destroy everything, and that's a damned sad thing.

IIRC, from the years of listening to former C= employee(s) on TeamONE ML, Gould and Ali saw the tide was going towards PC (and NT4?), which they were right.  Starving the Amiga and jumping into PC quicksand turned out to be a absolute disaster  Piss poor judgement call, but I'm sure they were desperate at the time to keep the financing rolling and felt it was in C='s future to do so.

As a comfychair Monday morning quarterback, I still see they did have some tallent for business and were trying to sell C= products.  Now it's nearly 2005, I long for G&A's management capabilties in running a company controlling the Amiga.  And I never EVER would have thought I'd be saying those words in a million years.  Just goes to show you. :-o

Happy New Year to you and your staff!

Some people take Christmas very seriously, but I find it very sad to see that they can't even extend Holiday wishes without bringing out the negative-nellies.

I think it was due to shock. We're ok now. :) In retrospect I think that they were saying Christmas Greetings without any hidden agenda.  :-D
