According to the following note, the US Aminet mirror is coming back online soon;
Recieved the following good news from the WUArchive staff. :-D
Hello, everyone. I'm mailing a short list of people who had been mailing in asking about the status of the Aminet mirror.
At the current point, we've drug out what we had off of tape backup from the original Wuarchive, and are restoring it to the new machine right now. It'll probably take some time, and I do not have an ETA. You'll see it in it's usual location under FTP (/pub/aminet) when it's complete.
Go ahead and notify your community links that it will be coming back up, and also whomever runs the mirrors from Wuarchive that they ought to start working again.
Don't hesitate to email me directly for any additional configuration-type issues the community may have.

The sad thing was there were only 5 people on the list (excluding myself). :-( But, I'm overjoyed it is coming back.
-
So is the demise of the US server the reason nothing's been uploaded to the other mirrors for so long? I thought one could upload directly to the German or UK mirrors...
Well, good news regardless.
-
There are lots of files since September in the upload directory of the German mirror that are waiting to be sorted and mirrored. Although I didn't think WUArchive was the central site, it appears that when it died, so did the mirroring.
-
Who is the centralised power anyway? Still Urban Müller?
-
well, just for the record, while there may have been 5 people who emailed, i didn't do that only because i figured everybody was busy working on the problem. and i didn't want to bug anyone.
believe me, i was woried. but, as there isn't anything i can do, no point in just being a pest.
i'm glad things are moving along.
i have missed it! :-(
-
Howdy. I'm Mark Bober.
As far as a central point of contact, I'm it.
The administration story of WuArchive is a long and complex tale - it became quite the red-headed stepchild in the past few years, and we're attempting to get things back on track.
I do not know how the AmiNet mirroring system was set up. I'd appreciate it if whomever's in the know (as it looks like my email above got around) could drop me a line, so we can get everything back in working order.

I'd rather have 5 people diseminate the information, rather than 5000 emails to the maintainer asking about minute by minute updates.
-
This is very good news indeed!!
And i must say thank you to the aminet hosts for the work they have done so far.
I honestly dont think the Amiga community would be like it is today, if aminet never existed.
-
Just to let everyone know so we don't have a duplication of effort, I've just forwarded Mark Bober's message to Urban Mueller and Matthias Scheler at thier aminet.net email addresses.
-
So er....aminet is basically running as an automaton without a master? :-).
-
Good to hear :)!
-
Looks like the mirror is now back up. Still no new files but the old ones are (mostly) there.
:-)
