It is with considerable satisfaction that Hyperion Entertainment can now announce the immediate availability for download of the first Amiga OS 4.0 Developer Pre-release update for registered Amiga OS 4.0 users.
Due to the extent and scope of the improvements incorporated into the update, it comes in the form of a full ISO image (33 MB) which needs to be burned on CD-R(W) by the user and is intended to replace the original Amiga OS 4.0 Developer Pre-release CD for installation and rescue purposes.
Please note that the file as well as the resulting CD is for personal use only and may not be distributed in any form to third parties.
Registered users may also opt to order a new full CD which also contains the updated SDK and contribution section (details and terms to be announced shortly).
Among the new features are:
* Kernel-Level Altivec support.
* Much improved compatibilty/speed of 68k emulation (JIT not included yet)
* Improved 68k FPU emulation
* Fully PowerPC-native Picasso96/graphics system
* Fully PowerPC-native MUI
* USB support for input devices
* Support for onboard serial and parallel hardware
* Driver support for the SiI0680 IDE adaptor (including UDMA support)
* Improved PIO mode VIA driver
* Improved Internet capabilities and better ethernet support.
* Printing support
* Improved audio hardware support, including new drivers.

The site is practically unreachable at the moment because the server only allows a certain number of connects. As soon as it is a bit more idle I am going to raise the number a bit.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
-
Been trying to download for a while now, but their server is likely overloaded. Can't connect at all.
-
Hooray! Kudos to the Hyperion staff!
Can't seem to access the server at the moment, but that will probably resolve itself within a few hours...
-
downloaded the first time i tried it at 30k a second guess i was quick to download it as soon as i see it. :-)

@Rogue
Thanks for the good news.
It's good to see that so many people are interested in downloading the update ... ;-)

I'd be surprised if anyone thought "Nah, I'll just get it some time next week" ;)

Apparently the CMS we're using has a bug. I think it is fixed now, but the server was unreachable during the better part of the day, and not through overload but simply due to a stupid bug in the CMS.
Doh!

Installed. Performance has increased a few notches, and the Radeon driver works in LoRes modes now. My DOpus4 screen is quite corrupted though. Will try a later version; maybe it'll help.
Also getting a few completely random freezes, requiring a hard reset.
Will do extensive testing next time I'm home. Well done to the developers for reaching this milestone. :-)
And just out of curiosity, why is the serial driver called a1serial.device instead of serial.device?
-
Because it's the AmigaOne serial device.
Duh.
-
why is the serial driver called a1serial.device instead of serial.device?
Uh, touchy subject :-) There had been lengthy discussions on the dev list about that. In the end we decided that two devices shouldn't really have the same name if they aren't interchangeable, i.e. the "serial.device" is for classic hardware, and a1serial.device is for AmigaOne hardware.

@ Rogue
Ah. I suppose that will prevent confusion in the long run. Good call. :-)
-
Hoya!
Groovy baby! Too bad I do not have an AONE yet! :-)
Be funky

If you've updated from an old installation, make sure that you replace the programs in WBStartup by the new versions. The updater will only copy the programs to thier default locations.
