Title: Anyone using Delfina on clockport?
Post by: haymiggan on October 13, 2003, 11:15:19 PM
Any comments about the quality of Delfina connected to an A1200 Clockport connection is greatly appreciated!

And of course anyone willing to sell it :) Heh'
Cheers!

And I would like to add an extra question to it: does it fit in a normal A1200 desktopcasing? Proper internal A1200 soundcards are impossible to find... :-(

and i would like to add: how does it fit along with powerflyer , mediator , scandoubler (eyetech) etc..

Ok, this wasn't meant as the "I WANT DELFINA" thread :)

Are there really no-people that has the Delfina Flipper and wants to tell us a little about it before we throw 129 € out of the window :)?

I'm waiting for Dragster to come online and tell a bit more about it. I did get some answers from Jens about limitations on clockport.

MP3 will have no limits. AHI will have a channel limit, because the clockport is only about 1.7M per second, resulting in a theoretical maximum
of 10 AHI channels at 44.1khz (or 5 stereo).

I plan to buy one in Graxx later this month... heh'
Anyone from Austria?

Hello Mates,

now that I've seen some people seems interested inthe delfina flipper board, I'll start answering questions.

@Lemp:

The board is not really big, it has a rectangle shape but the included cable to connect is not very long. As I do not have a scandoubler (internal) nor a mediator I can't tell on that, however, I have a powerflyer but as I stated in my review, I connectred the delfina to my VarI/O's clockport, I'd say that the hole the powerflyer leaves to access the clockport on the A1200 motherboard is not big enough to allow the connector fit inside... I will confirm this later though.

@Jiffy: The board will fit, but you have to take very much care of it as to what isolating it matters, any contact with the parts in the motherboard will fry the a1200 mobo or the delfina itself. You will have to remove the metal shielding inside the A1200 to make it fit properly. One more thing you must be aware of is that you have to make it fit so that you have access to the RCA type audio outputs of the board (maybe using a cable to access it and getting that cable out of the machine via the rear trapdoor of the 1200 near the mouse port). The same for inputs.. (the board does NOT have RCA type inputs), all inputs are cdrom-audio-like ports/connectors.

Regarding the software, well... I haven't been able to, but the new delfina library has been released and this version is suposed to fix the I/O problem I talked about in my review (the fault resides in the delfina library, yes... not in Michael Henke's programs as it's stated there, however at that moment he found a workaround). That's a big problem, the old delfina library versions caused a lot of I/O problems with serial port/ scsi controllers/ etc... the other problem (caused by the same problem in the delfina library) is random crashes wen playing mp3 using any program (amigaamp, amplifier, delfmpeg, etc).. this problem is suposed to be fixed too, I will report if the new library works fine ornot this weekend or next week.

Feel free to shot any more questions you have,

Cheers

Dragster

Thanks for the updated review, I will look forward to hearing about the Power Flyer issue. I guess it depends somewhat on mobo rev.

I expected that. It's a shame the Delfina 1200 isn't for sale anymore. It would be a better fit.

This is long gone... :-)

The rear trapdoor of my A1200 is used up by the Blizzard SCSI controller. I expect to have to make a hole in the upper backside of the A1200 for the in/outputs.

Still in doubt between a Delfina- and a Subwaycard... The chances of both cards fitting in the A1200 are pretty slim, I expect, not even mentioning my poor PSU. Decisions, decisions... Sigh... ;-)

Maybe it's smarter to go for the Subway and wait for a secondhand Delfina 1200 to surface somewhere/somewhen.

My Delfina Flipper arrived the other day!
And to answer the question about A1200 Clockport + Power Flyer compability... it fits!

But sadly I'm having a hard time getting it to work properly, as it's crashing a lot in DELFMPEG with every delfina.library i've tried... both in my 020, and 060... heck! it won't even boot with my 030 connected!

Anyone got ideas?
Cheers,
Povl

Here's a picture of my setup (http://fragment.stc.cx/a1200.jpg). Delfina fits nicely after removing the internal floppydrive. Maybe if the HD was in its original place the FD would fit too. I also added two fans (http://fragment.stc.cx/a1200fans.jpg) to keep the case cool. Both running at 6 volts, very quiet. I made an internal connection from Paula RCAs -> Delfina. Here's a picture of Delfina and VGA connectors (http://fragment.stc.cx/a1200conn.jpg).

About the card then.. I love it! When streaming 160kbit MP3 the 060 load is about 5%  :-D

Nice setup!!!!

You just need to add a PF or a SCSI-IDE bridge on your HD there...and you're rocking!

What's your mobo rev.? 2B???
And did you experience any problems with Delfmpeg and what libraries do you use?
Cheers,
Povl

Yes, rev 2B.

I use AMPlifier to play/stream MP3s with (the newest I think) delfinampeg.library. Sometimes Delfina (but only Delfina) crashes during play.
