Title: UAE for PocketPC being developed!
Post by: amigean on July 11, 2004, 09:09:56 PM
An individual in Germany who goes by the alias 'Cerial' has taken on the task to port the UAE into the WinCE 3.0 (pocketPC, Windows Mobile) platform.

See the following page for details and screenshots:
http://pocketinsanity.sourceforge.net/index.php?content=uae

It is rumoured to achieve 20-30 fps on fast PocketPCs and a public beta is promised soon.

It was about time this wonderful hardware got some proper software ;)

Come on.  If these screenshots are geniune, and there is no reason to doubt them, this is a fantastic product.

I am wondering which PDA to buy at the mo! This would be a deciding factor for me.  There would be so much more I could do knowing that it can run some/most 680x0 software, even games that hit the hardware.  Imagine some of the games shown running on your PDA.  For me, it's a dream come true.

Congratulations on a revolutionary piece of coding.  Wish I could say it was me, but it was you.  Fantastic.

How long before the software is completely usable?

Quite frankly.  This will be the first time I will have seen a solid OS running on any mobile platform.

Make sure you get a 512Meg SD card with it too, I have filled my 512Meg card up with MP3's and a movie and all my Lucus arts adventure games (using Pocket ScummVM)... oh and I've got Quake on there too, and Age of Empires and Virtual pool... um... and some stuff for work (but that's not why I bought it, right?)

Hang on.  I must have mis-understood.

You have AOE on it?

Shouldn't be suprised.  The PDA I was looking at had a 400Mhz processor in it.  When I first discovered AOE I was running a 200Mhz Cyrix with on-board graphics.

Can you suggest where I might look for software for it?

Yup the 4150 (BTW the 4155 and 4150 are identical) has a 400Mhz CPU is more than meaty enough for any task that one could want to do on a 320*240 PDA.

I get my software from:
PocketPCSoft.net (http://www.pocketpcsoft.net/)

and

PocketGear.com (http://www.pocketgear.com/)

Wasn´t there a (crap) version of UAE for java?
I´m sure I have read about that on the UAE homepage http://www.freiburg.linux.de/~uae/ (http://www.freiburg.linux.de/~uae/) but it doesn´t seem to be there anymore?

Now  PocketPCs are moving to 640x480screen 500 or 600Mhz cpu and 128MB ram with builtin wlan.
Wouldn´t that be nice too run uae on?
And there is 68k-JIT for ARM, I have seen it on a GP32 or Zodiac-forum(some Sega Megadrive emulator)!
But I shouldn´t expect to see P96-uaedrivers for Pocketpc soon should I?

Still PPaint and Superfrog on a PDA!!!:-o

(Since my pdadreams seems to become true, were is the Newton-emulator? :-))
