Title: BlackIRC keyfiles available online
Post by: IOSPIRIT on July 10, 2004, 03:28:30 PM
Recently we have experienced a rise in queries regarding the
availability of keyfiles for the - since beginning of 2000 -
discontinued title BlackIRC. In order to also serve the demands of these interested users, we are now offering an online version of "BlackIRC 1.1" for purchase. The online-version contains a keyfile and the latest public version of BlackIRC.

At this point, we want to underline, that there is no more any support available for BlackIRC and that the development has been stopped since the year 2000. This offer thus does only address users, that don't need any support and simply want to purchase a keyfile.

From the IOSPIRIT-website (http://amiga.iospirit.de/index.php?mode=products):

If there is no more support then why are you selling this key?

Definately to make some money as Black IRC 1.1 was made Freeware by the author in March 2000

I agree. Sounds kind of pathetic actually, to sell
something and don't offer any support at all.

Doesn't matter if it's 5 EUR och 50 EUR.

Will these 5 Euros support the Amiga in any way?

Each product you develop should sell themselves..

@RussellB

If it's freeware, then what's up with needing a keyfile anymore?

I thought BlackIRC had a 45 minute demo timeout which you needed a key to disable?

Funny to read all the comments here. Been a big cheerup this morning ;) .. kinda funny, that there are still people around that think you can get rich from - maybe - 10 sold 5 EUR keyfiles, which, after substraction of handling fees, tax, etc. could not even finance one good meal. And all this artificial outrage about something that will never affect these people .. brilliant! Reminds me of the funny guy last year, that said I'm greedy because I refused to sell him software at half the price of what I previously paid for ..

But, seriously - and I know this is hard to believe, there are people around, that just want to say "thank you for the software I used for free for the last 4 years" and/or want to personalize their freeware copy, and they now can, if they want to. But sure, if you get something for free, why should you say thank you or give something in return? After all, this is the AMIGA market! Everything has to be free - and be it through piracy, which has always helped this platform. Boot, rob and hang the bloody {bleep} for actually having done free work for you! Oh, getting sarcastic and off-topic again .. ;)

Have a nice and cheerful sunday.

Best regards,

Felix Schwarz

The problem was the Freeware version was never uploaded to Aminet and was only available for download on the www.innovative-web.de website but it disappeared when IOSPIRIT took the website over.  So only the lucky people who download it before it disappeared got it.

@ Weirdami & jahc

The Freeware version didn't need a keyfile as the need for it was removed when development was stopped.

Then why asking (so little) money for it ?

After all, this is the AMIGA market!

You're right: only in the Amiga market you will see people re-releasing and asking money for software that has been previously released as Freeware.

Two points:
1) Nobody is asking for your money. Read again what I wrote.
2) BlackIRC is still freeware, always has been since 2000. Not even a single bit was changed. There is no such thing as a re-release. In addition, see point 1.

@MickJT

Yes, please do.

@whoever

I don't care if IOSPIRIT thinks they'll be making lots of money; they probably won't be. It looks like there were a lot (some) people asking for keyfiles, and since IOSPIRIT had removed the freeware version from the Internet, what were they to do but charge for the version that needed a keyfile? They couldn't really put the freeware version onto a disk and sell it, so they did the next best thing and put the non-freeware version onto a disk and put it up for sale for cheap.

No need for consiracy theory type thinking here. The Skull and Bones society isn't involved. :-)

It's uploaded with a message saying i'm not breaking any laws by uploading it.

You may have to wait for 2 aminet updates (week max) before you'll see it on there.

Ok, so if I have understood correctly:

 1. BlackIRC is freeware but only shareware version (with 45 minutes timeout) can easily be found on Aminet (until someone still having the freeware version has the idea to upload it...)
 2. You're selling latest public release with a keyfile (hugh... I thought BlackIRC was freeware since 2000: how come a Freeware program may need a keyfile ?)
 3. You don't provide any support for it

Fine... Now THIS is the Amiga market.

Leo.

... and this is how we scare off developers...
