XBOX Port of WinUAE

Sounds interesting. I don`t have an XBox so unable to try it out. Has anyone else tried it, what do you think?

You have to modify your x-box hardware before you can install it. The modificaiton process is quite a pain. You basically have to replace the ROM chip with a flash ROM chip. Then you have to burn some sort of bootstrap program into it and then install some software to the X-Box harddrive that gives it some sort of interface to the software (called a COntrol Panel). Then you can install UAE. I'm not sure that I want to go to that effort. Besides the USB interfaces for the x-box are non-standard so it juse becomes more and more of a hassle to add stuff to it.
Interesting that they ported WinUAE though considering that the Windows OS isn't in the X-Box.

The x-box has one extra wire, but other than that its a bog standard usb port which you can rewire to a standard usb socket.

The x-box runs on a moddified Win 2k os with directx 8.
The hardest part of getting this port to work is getting the xdk to compile it.

Wouldn't it be funny to run CD32 games on the Xbox with WinUAEX and put a sticker on it with the name CDX32? :-D

The XBOX is actually quite easy to hack, infact I can do one in less than a half hour without a MOD chip, it only requires a network connection to your computer, a simple software kit you can grab off the net, an original copy of the game 007: Agent Under Fire, and the ability to make two simple solder connections on the mother board. Installing a new Hard Drive with the new user interface in easier than installing Winblows on a real PC. :)
The emu runs very well considering that it is currently only on version 2. The guy who ported it (Xport) is responsible for 99% of the emulator ports currently available for the XBOX, and I can tell you, not only is this guy fast, he is VERY talented at that! :)
The only real draw back to this emu, is that it currently does not support XBOX's that have an extra 64Mb of RAM installed in them, but other than that, it runs more or less just like WinUAE on a 780 some Mhz PC with 64MB of RAM would, and I imagine this will only get better in the future considering a lot of emulators on the XBOX as of late have been taking advantage of some Virtual Memory trick that allows the program to think the XBOX has twice the RAM, thus we can play games like Metal Slug 3 and 4 on Mame or FinalBurn with ease! That is not to say WinUAE on the XBOX will feature this trick, but I suppose it should be possible. :)

Do you know if this no-chip hack makes it impossible to go on Live? I've been thinking about getting a secondary Xbox as media player/emulator box, because I really don't want to miss out on the greatest functionality of all on the machine ;)
-
I'm not sure if there is a way around live yet or not, I don't there there is though. I'm too poor for live, let alone cable or DSL so I don't keep up with all that.
I know if you get a MOD chip that can be turned off, and leave your original hard drive in, then mount the second on externally you can do it, but that's the only way I know.

If you mod your x-box, they can detect it. You need to mod it in a way that it can be disabled...
HI! J-golden here! I'm hacking the snot out of my x-bow to do exactly what everyone is talking about, putting UAEX on it and I'll be calling it my CHEX-BOX (gunna cut up the "X" and rework it into a check mark ;) I'm also exploring Amithalon also as there are Linux specific ROM images for the X-Box mod chips....
Also, be aware that M$ live can also see the size of your hard drive. normals are 8-10 gig. I have a 60 Gig. in mine but I'm making an external chasis with a swapable drive bay so I can change out the 60 gig, and put in the 8 gig. original, hit the disable switch on the mod chip, and do the x-box live thing....
They haven't done anything abo. the hd size yet, but if you have a big hd, they you have a mod chip...... (can't use one w/o it)
PEACE!!!!!

I forgot to mention that there is also a free alternative to XBOX Live that you can use as well...
And for some UAEx news, version 3 just came out and now you can among many other things, play CD32 and CDTV discs (iso and mp3 support on the way), set Chip and Fast RAM to 8MB, ect! :)
