Björn Hagström & Amigaworld.net present OS4Depot.net
This is a File Depot portal dedicated to providing and hosting Amiga OS4 files and related resources.

It's nice, yes, but it seems a bit redundant to me - we've already got good ol' Aminet and, more recently, AmigaShare. Other thoughts?
-
I agree. But It will be much easier looking for OS4 code/programs etc. from a dedicated site for OS4 only.
-
Not another file site..

Yeah. It also doesn't have such a small filesize limit as some of the other sites. For instance, Steffen was able to upload his Mame port (11MB) where some of the other sites had file size restrictions like 2MB or 5MB, and he couldn't upload to them.
OS4 Depot is meant to compliment the other sites, not compete against them. BTW, there is also more than one Aminet...don't forget about the mirrors. :-)

I like choice ;-) (but I hope that anyone that uploads stuff up there that uploads them also on Aminet)
nice site :-)
-
apartheid still alive :-(
as someone mentioned here before we've got Aminet and AmigaShare, DO WE REALLY NEED ANOTHER FILE-Site?....
or AOS4 users do not like classics?
well, we'll see.

*cough* hypocrite *cough*
*cough* morphzone has morphos downloads *cough*
*cough* os4 applications not runnable on classics *cough*
*cough* windows and linux and mac applications often aren't on OS4depot either *cough*
*cough* not stopping classic apps that work properly with os4 from being uploaded *cough*
Hell of a cough, Id better have a sip of tea...

I think it's a good first central site to all however, AMINET is a fantastic resource that would utimatly be the better choice. If there was no AMINET, AMIGA would have followed ATARI etc into oblivion.

Nice!!
I like it!! :-D
Aminet has its merits, unfortunately the structure and searching methods applied there are really out of date and the maintainers do not keen to change it. (Actually almost nobody got the mails answered from them... I don't blame them anyway.)
The only one thing what I dislike in os4depot is: HTTP upload. No control over the upload process at all, lack of resume and the timeouts... (I have an 384k ADSL here, I cannot even upload a file which is bigger than 28 megs within an hour. Not exactly what I intend to do anyway...)
All in all, they deserved my Royal Happy Boing price(tm):

Very well done :-)

I think there is room in the community for a file upload/download site such as OS4Depot.net.
Why?
Because it is completely for OS4 applioations which means OS4 users will have a breeze finding downloadable applications and so on when they require them, other than scanning through loads of classic programs they dont really want to bother with.
Like MacOS X users, OS4 users wont really want to be emulating classic to much. Although its nice that its possible, to them, nothing will beat OS4 native applications.
Like me for instance, I HATE going into classic Mac mode. It's a real pain in the ass. Nothing beats native applications for the OS you are using.
For users to have a file site with nothing but executables for THEIR operating system only, it is much better which is why I am all for a site such as OS4 Depot.
If it was a file site for CLASSIC Amiga apps on the other hand, then I can see where some of you are coming from with your opinions based on the fact that there isnt really room in the community for yet another file site.
But as this is OS4 only, and OS4 is of course the future of Amiga, then I can't see what there is to slam here.
OS4 Depot is a welcome addition to the community, and I look forward to seeing it grow in the not too distant future :-)
Thanks,
Mike.

At least upload the software on Aminet as well as those sites... Why? Because it has been there forever. I've seen lot's of other file sites which were the only to have some files I need go down and leave me searching, while Aminet has always been there.
