Leuven, Belgium - April 16, 2004. Hyperion Entertainment and the Amiga OS 4.0 development team are extremely pleased and relieved to announce that after nearly 30 months of painstaking development the Amiga OS 4.0 Developer Pre-release has gone gold and will be sent to the duplication plant on Monday, April 19, 2004.
The Amiga OS 4.0 Developer Pre-release consists of a current snapshot of AmigaOS 4.0 for the AmigaOne platform with a straightforward HTML installation guide in English, German, French and Italian as well as the Amiga OS 4.0 SDK.
The Amiga OS 4.0 SDK will allow near effortless migration of existing Amiga OS 3.x source-code to OS 4.0 as well as the creation of altogether new content.
The SDK comprises the following material:
* Complete Installer for easy and painless installation;
* GNU C Compiler 2.95.3;
* GNU C Compiler 3.4.0 RC 1;
* vbcc 0.8f;
* GNU GDB Source-Level Debugger;
* System Includes V 50;
* System Autodocs V 50;
* PDF Documentation on GNU C compilers and GNU Debugger;
* PDF Guide "Project Migration to AmigaOS 4.0";
* Example programs with source (among others: Reaction, expansion library, Roadshow, FFS2);
* Newlib.library (experimential, shared C library);
* CLIB2 source code.
Users will be able to register their copy at a soon-to-be-launched portal site which will offer Amiga OS 4.0 related content for download.
Hyperion Entertainment and the AmigaOS 4.0 development and beta-testing teams wish to thank all of you for your patience.

great news indeed :-)

yeah (begins to start saving for an A1 8-) )

Good job boys!
Question: Why two versions of GNU C Compiler???
Also, can we get the OS 4 SDK seperately? The reason I ask is that I don't have an AmigaOne, and probably won't be able to afford one for some time. However, it would be cool if I could at least browse the new SDK and see what goodies lie within. And heck, some cross-compiling would be fun too. :-)

Question: Why two versions of GNU C Compiler???
The 3.4.0 included is RC 1, i.e. a beta version of the current release branch. It still has some bugs left, therefore it is not recommended for "deployment" code.
can we get the OS 4 SDK seperately?
Dunno to be honest. We didn't think about this possibility yet.

@Glaucus & Jose
You might want to contact Hyperion Enterainment (http://www.hyperion-entertainment.com/_amiga/corporate.html) directly. I think either the Sales Manager and Commercial Relations or US Liaison would be the ones to contact.

This is pretty good news. Soon I'll be able to order my A1. I didn't want to get an earlybird as I wanted to PAY for my copy of OS4. Is that crazy?
-
@Fluffy:
Not entirely... I see my purchase of an EarlyBird as a way of showing my support for all involved parties, in a much more meaningful way than a web poll. I also get to play with OS4 earlier than those who choose to play it safe and wait for the finished version.
-
:banana: :laughing: :pint:
This is a definate cause for celebration... so will it only work on the AmigaOne, or can we use it on Pegasos and Macs and GameCubes or what ?
-
@Rebel-CD32
It is for the AmigaOne Earlybird owners only. Thus the Pre-Release Developer's version is only for the AmigaOne.
As stated in the second paragraph:
"The Amiga OS 4.0 Developer Pre-release consists of a current snapshot of AmigaOS 4.0 for the AmigaOne platform"

Hello
What is the schedule for consumer version?
Is this new OS compatible with Micro A1 or A1Lite?
Is there any 3rd party free applications CD for this new OS?
Is there any book / user guide for this new OS?
Thank's.

Great news... 8-)

The 4.0 NDK should be available for download like the 3.9 NDK. (As we can then begin porting software to OS4.0. Also some of the matter eg. the ReAction examples, would likely have some relevance for OS3.9 programmers.) That is, if Hyperion and co. intend to have a reasonable application base by the time the user version OS4.0 is launched.
Anyone know the status of the new RKMs?

Congratulations all you A1 fans!
If this is as Amiga compatible as MorphOS is, then you will have a great time in front of you! :-P ;-)
-
Well it happen eventually. I need this now! My AmigaOne is imminent. Should`ve arrived today damn it! Oh well.
Great work though! 30 months!? Quite a time, but put it like that and it sounds longer, if thats possible.
-
Hoya!
MASSIVE news!!!
How do you spell "erection"??? ;-D

This is great news. Well done Hyperon and everyone else involved in this monumental accomplishment - it means so much to so many :-)
Now to get the flash ROM on my AmigaOne unprotected...
-
Okay, ready, set, PORT!
-
Too Coo'!
...And I won't be using it 30 months from now, as I expect Hyperion will have at least 4.1 on hand by then! :angel:
-
Great!!, but I am still wondering when the official realease will be, and please PLEASE say it will have printed manuals. Also what companies they have on board for business software and fun stuff like graphics programs, adobe and corel and jasc would be nice, also ports of The Gimp would also be very very nice, I would also like to know if there is a way of getting Openoffice to work with the amiga.
I am becomming very very interested in purchasing an A1, but I also need to know that I will be able to run some of todays software on it, not just last decades ports, a list of software developers for the A1 and os4 would be greatly appreciated as I have not really seen or have heard of any, maybe I missed it, who knows, but if some one can please point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. thanks

Top work lads n lasses :-)
