Title: The world's first AmigaOne public webserver
Post by: ikir on February 22, 2004, 10:15:08 PM
While celebrating the launch of the new dedicated 2Mbit line, Ikir Sector is proud to announce, after an experimentation phase lasted 4 months, that the IkSNet web portal, and all the other associated sites, are running on an AmigaOne G3-SE web server. The web server is financed by Alternative-Technology, while the technical managment is
assigned to Soft3.

You'll find more informations about it on our site. You are all invited to visit www.iksnet.it and to try the server. Ikir, Sector, the Italian Alternative Computing web portal. Please note: the line may be overloaded due this announcement.

Yes running Linux Debian PPC suite.
The WebServer is a simple A1 G3-SE 600Mhz/256 Mb/Ati Radeon 7000 series the baby is very stable, fast and impressive.
In the first 4 months betatest period he turn with only 128 Kbit :-o (so tiny line) in upstream whit a granitic stability in this situation of strong stress and neither one day in of-line mode for a  normal and usual situation of traffic.

Bye

Sorry for my bad english  :-)

I'll be way more impressed when people are running webservers on OS4. No offence, but this news amounts to "someone, somewhere is running a webserver on PPC Linux."

:-)

Linux is the classic server os. And we have a very good AmigaOnePPC version of Debiam. The hardware are going GREAT. Our portal in thse 4 months has received thousands of hits everyday, thounsands of forum posts everyday, and the server runs several webiste not only this..... before this week with a 128kbit line :-)

For sure when we'll have a OS4 version wich can operate good as a server....

Hi ikir,

nice news :-)

Complimenti Ikir . . . ben fatto :-)

Ciao

OT- i've heard that "Yellow-Dog" works fine on the AOne and it is the easier to install and the more "user-friendly". . . it is true? (from a "normal" user POV)

@that punk guy

I am in the process of writing a brand new modular webserver on OS4. When testing it, I am running a native OS4 webserver on my A1, its just that only my LAN can see it for now ;-)

@ Framiga

Ps: i'm going to try Yellow Dog Linux soon, i don't know when because i'm busy working.

@ CyberMech
Yes, Powered by AmigaOne and DebianPPC. Soon we'll upload it :-)

@ xeron
Very interesting, as always you are one of the most active users outhere. looking forward for your webserver, maybe we'll use it in the future, why not.

@Xeron

:-?
I thought AmigaDE (Digital Environment) meant that, besides it was h/w independent, it was build for networking everything (so a server should be included in the OS)

But anyway, good job! :-)

Cool! :-)

And speaking of servers, here you will see one of the few Pegasos1 G4 that was ever built, and probably the only one used as a server: http://www.pegasos.org (http://www.pegasos.org)  :-)

That one is running Linux aswell!

Maybe one day the AmigaOS/MorphOS will be suitable for serious server usage too? :-)
