You have read correctly, it again has spawned another name with this new release.
Windows, Linux and Mac OS versions are available in the download section.
Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/)
Personal Note: Am i the only one getting visions of a dodgy early 80's Clint Eastwood film ;-)
-
The server seems totally overwhelmed at the moment, so you may have some issues trying to get it, doesnt seem to be many mirrors about either.
if you really need it and having problems getting it i can send it via IRC on #amiga.org or possibly MSN/ICQ. (windows version only, size: 6.3 megs approx)
One at a time though :-)
-
I'll give this a sping later tonight. Personally so far on Linux I have found Konqurer lacking and Mozilla frighteningly slow & bloated. Let's hope this is an improvement.

I love that movie! Got it on laserdisc - the Mig 31 was a beast of a plane - the novel (and sequel "Firefox Down") by Craig Thomas were pretty good too... :-D
-
Firefox (the film) rocks :-) The browser is pretty good as well :-) I'm surprised they got the rights use the name though.
-
a former amiga demo musician will sue their arse :-P
-
Pretty nice browser...
Fast>>>>>>>>>>
-
Fast>>>>>>>>>>
Are those Go Faster stripes? :-)
-
Actulaly I meant for the >>>>> to show how fast it really was.
The Firefox Mozilla IMHO is faster than Netscape 7.1 ( and yes I know that they do seem to use similiar code , I've heard, but it still appears faster)
This would be GREAT for the AMIGA OS4 !!!!!!
>>>>>>>> this means bring to market FASTER>>>>>>>>>
please :-) :-) :-)
-
Netscape 7.1 is based on a now ancient version of Mozilla (1.1? Something like that). NS also has nasty AOL-ifyied extra bits bolted on.
Firefox is a cut-down version of the Mozilla browser component, and they still share source code.
There's also Thunderbird, the standalone email client, currently at v0.5, which is also quite nice. I've been using it since 0.4 was released.
Mozilla on AmigaOS/compatibles would be a much-needed boost to Amiga opensource development, not to mention great PR, as well as giving me a decent footing for migrating to OS4 :-)

Agreed! :-) A modern browser is long overdue for Amiga, and Firefox would be a HUGE boost to all Amiga-ish computers!
The problem I have is that my family is all pissed off and confused cuz they think I keep yanking their chain about which browser to use...
"Ok, you should use Mozilla now as your browser, instead of Internet Explorer..."
Next version... "Phoenix..."
Next version... "Firebird..."
Next version... "Firefox..."
And what do any of these names have to do with what the product is.... a WEB BROWSER... I mean, AWeb, IBrowse, Voyager, Netscape, Internet Explorer.... All these names convey the idea that you are going to traverse (travel/browse) a network or web. What the hell is a "Firefox"????
Far and away, it's the best browser out for any platform. They just need to cut it out with the stupid names!
-
Great, another product named after a fox that has nothing to do with foxes! Oh well. Technically, a Firefox is a Red Panda. ;-)
I just downloaded Mozilla 1.6 for testing my webpages, and the interface is sorely lacking, especially since you can't change the icon sizes without getting a different skin. Funny how the "stripped" version of Mozilla seems to have better toolbars.
My only complaint with Firebird is that it didn't recognize filetypes effectively, so it was always showing videos as binary garbage instead of spawning Media Player. I sure hope they fixed that with FireFox, since it's the only thing that's preventing me from replacing IE!
-
THEY FIXED IT!!! You can fully customize filetypes!
Goodbye, IE! Well, at least as a default. :-D
-
I'm typing this on Firefox right now! (Linux version). Man is this browser fast :-o . I cant wait until it reaches 1.0
-
WOOHOO! This rules!

@ wacoom : is flash working ? is it on x86 or A1 ?
On my A1 mozilla 1.5 takes 30 sec to open, 16sec for firebird 0.7 and 8 sec for opera 6.23.
How fast is firefox ? Can you put a refresh+load images button ? It is not possible with firebird 0.7, you have to go in tools to change whether or not you want images.

Using it now, the flash is working great. I would have to say this is even better then then Apple browser now that flash and custom file types are fixed. Its trully a great browser. Now lets get it ported to the Amiga!!
-
Just Curious.
How do they get those nice icons next to a URL in one's bookmarks?
I notice Amiga.org has a nice one.
However, not all sites have an icon.
:-D
-
damn fine browser. I'm using it right now :)
Grab the windows version from my server if the Moz ones are still slow.
Download here (http://downloads.dynamicallywebbed.com/junk/FirefoxSetup-0.8.exe)
-
There seems to be no PPC Linux version so it's useless to me.
-
It probably will be compiled for PPC Linux "soon"... but surely you can download and compile the source code on PPC Linux without any modifications?
-
@mikeymike
No. I don't have the time, patience, or skill for it. I detest Linux and the less time I have to spend on it, the better.
Besides, my installation broke itself somehow and won't compile anything at all.
-
Ive just downloaded Firefox now and I am testing it out. The only problems I had with Firebird was the lack of a Flash plug-in, but maybe Firefox has solved this.
-
I just copy the Flash DLL from Opera 7x, works fine here.
-
Just made some banners for AmiZilla :-D
Hope you like them :-o

"Firefox"?!?!

Lame!

Re: Flash plugins for Firebird
What?! You just run the Flash Player 7 install and specify the plugins directory for Firebird... easy peasy!
:-?

Copy file, paste. I call that easy.
-
Yeah, I'm just confused that anyone could have had problems installing the Flash plugin in the regular way too...
-
I had no problem installing Flash-Player for Firebird 0.7, but I couldn't setup the Shockwave-Player for it ... with Firefox they work perfectly :-D
Including Java, and other plugins :-)
-
Thanks for the nice banners hnl_dk.

And as I wrote to you, if you would like anything modyfied, just send an email ... I just want my Firefox (MIG 31 - Firefox) ;-)

Lionstorm: @ wacoom : is flash working ? is it on x86 or A1 ?
Are you talking about Firefox, or the fact that file extensions don't work properly in Firebird? Flash works fine in Firefox. Since Firebird works on A1 (PPC Linux), Firefox will follow shortly for sure.
I just can't wait untill they get the official Extensions list back online. Scroll-wheel support in Firefox is just too damn slow, and you can't customize it in Options like you can in Mozilla. I had to install a plugin to fix that in Firebird, and I seem to have lost the plugin file. I understand why mouse gestures aren't a standard feature, but the scroll wheel should definately have its own configuration section, seeing how scroll mice are supported natively to begin with.
On my A1 mozilla 1.5 takes 30 sec to open, 16sec for firebird 0.7 and 8 sec for opera 6.23.

I don't care what anyone says, Mozilla is damn slow. Firefox seems about the same as Opera and IE (from a warm start, since IE is always preloaded in memory). Firefox has a reload button. I don't know if you can add a button to refresh images only. I think you have to reload the whole page. But, every browser works that way as far as I know.
TallAmigan: How do they get those nice icons next to a URL in one's bookmarks?
Make a BMP file called "favicon.ico", and put it into the root of your web upload folder. Some browsers won't show it (including IE, for some reason), but many will. I don't think it will work properly in many browsers unless it's a BMP. Mozilla probably doesn't care what format it is.
Yeah, I'm just confused that anyone could have had problems installing the Flash plugin in the regular way too...
Macromedia has been slow to recognize "alternative" browsers. For the longest time, I couldn't get the "official" Flash installer to work with Opera, either, because it just doesn't bother to look for the correct folders. Java has (or at least had) the same problem.
-
Actually, IE was first with the icon-feature, but it has never worked properly... :-D
-
I don't think any browser gets the favicon stuff right :-)
