The NetBSD Project announced that it has launched an international competition for the creation of a new logo. There is a cash prize of US $100.00 for the winning entry.
The successful logo will also have wide exposure, featuring in all NetBSD material including, but not limited to; the NetBSD.org web site, software media, apparel, and business systems. The competition will close on February 29, 2004. The rules of the competition, submission information and the design brief can be found in the official announcement (http://mail-index.NetBSD.org/netbsd-advocacy/2004/01/14/0001.html).
It's an opportunity for the Amigans to express their creativity on a project with wide publicity.
NetBSD always had extensive support on our plaform (http://www.netbsd.org/Ports/amiga/).

Me too! Especially the one raping Tux! :-D

They're not talking about that red cartoon (Free?)BSD daemon.
They're talking about the current NetBSD logo, which IMO is a slovenly drawn mix of some "Tom of Finland" style of muscle-man homoeroticism mixed with an American WW2 propaganda photo. In other words, not the best logotype in the world:

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but apparently some of Wasabi(?)'s clients found a way to take offense.
I'm surprised nobody's taken my "Jesus Lizard" suggestion... Runs on anything, right?

Nice idea!!! :-D
Some suggested themes for the new identity include:
* An animal character such as the Linux `Tux' penguin (4) or
Darwin `Hexley' platypus (2).
I think Eric W. Schwartz (http://www.coax.net/people/erics/) is the man for the job!!! He has already done the mascot for Amizilla project (http://www.amiga.org/gallery/index.php?n=295) and the AROS kitty (http://www.aros.org/images/kitty_1.png).
* A logo based on the letter-forms of the organization name (NetBSD).
Mike_Amiga has sent a logo here (http://www.amiga.org/gallery/photo.php?lid=901) some time ago...
Go guys, it's an easy way to get 100$ & fame ;-)

But I guess the same people who take offense at seeing a Demon will also get upset by a Jesus Lizard...

Yay, yet another "sexy" anthropomorphic cartoon animal for the "furry" freaks to masturbate over...
Why would anyone wish to bring such evil upon an innocent operating system? :P

@Seehund?
Everything you see, you have to correlate it to sex...(see your 2 posts on the topic ;-) ). I think this kind of behavior needs a deep freudian analysis :-P

I have seen that there are more efficient methods these days than relying on Dr. Fraud:

Aaanyway, I think I might have come up with an idea for a logo, involving that daemon's trident but without sexual innuendo. $100, come to daddy! :P

That was the joke, yes.
As to Schwartz... Well, he can draw things without boobs (or as we call them in America now, "Janets") -- the question is whether he could ever be talked into it, and of course, if it lacked, y'all would scream it was 'gay.' ;-)
