AROS now runs hosted on Linux on the AmigaOne computer. Thanks to DaveP who managed to achieve the port in just a few hours.
Announcing it here (http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?forum=14&topic_id=3020&post_id=37706&viewmode=thread&order=0#37706), DaveP has ported the open source AROS operating system.
With the increasing numbers of frustrated AmigaOne owners without an Amiga-ish OS to run on their new computers, it is excellent news that at last they'll be able to use a friendly and familliar system.
We are currently awaiting DaveP to send us the source code so we can publicly release AROS for AmigaOne on our website.

I dont think its right to post a 3rd persons email address in a news item, even if it is obvious to anyone with some common sense so I removed it from the article, I hope I havent offended anyone.

Ooohh... I can think of a troll...
**Must control self - restrain ... RESTRAIN!!! **

This means it runs on a Pegasos with Linux also. Right?
Still I like to run it native. I am not going to install Linux on the Peg just to run it. Because I got MorphOS. But for AmigaOne owners it might be something good. You know, there is only Linux. No trolling from me me.

Well done dave, that cache problem had us all stumped!
:pint:

This might be interesting! :-)
Have you got the source code yet?
-
Well done Dave!

Fantastic news! This benefits everyone:-)

#### NEWS!
The proper headline should be 'AROS ported to LinuxPPC'.
This is not an AmigaOne port. If it would have been, it should be a port that would boot on itself directly from U-Boot.
I was quite happy when reading the topic, but no.
This is not an AmigaOne port, just a Linux port. Sorry. :(
Still waiting for a real port. Linux sucks.

I see an attempt to provide excessive leverage when a PM and a "query" over IRC does not get answered.
Fact is boys, I have been on business for two weeks In a different country, and I didnt get a lot of time to catch up each day and I wasn't at home so I didn't see your query messages Fabio which were sent to my home.
I don't know where this "few hours" came from but I guess its all part of the master plan to try and attempt yet another "put up or shut up" smear campaign. Given I have read the comments on ANN and Moobunny I can't say I am in a particularly good mood right now.
Its a rebuild of the linux sources on linuxPPC ( with a few tweaks to get something to appear ). Go do it yourself Fabio, its long and tedious but its not that difficult.
In the meantime there is ONE person who contacted me in a pleasant way called Markus who I will be co-operating with.
With the increasing numbers of frustrated AmigaOne owners without an Amiga-ish OS to run on their new computers, it is excellent news that at last they'll be able
to use a friendly and familliar system.
Thats funny, because they have AOS3.x on UAE which is far superior to AROS. Around now (Im not caught up so forgive me if this is wrong ) they also should have access to the AOS4 beta which kind of negates the point of AROS.
We are currently awaiting DaveP to send us the source code so we can publicly release AROS for AmigaOne on our website.
No, you are currently awaiting DaveP to agree to co-operate with people that have done their best to totally destroy his reputation over the last few days.
If Markus is part of AROS then by and by you will get it, if not then its up to you to be nicer to him than you were to me.
Dave.

I think you don't fully realise the excitement that a PPC version of AROS has caused.
Most people, including the AROS team, offered only messages of support.
There may well be a few individuals with axes to grind, but you are a big person, you should ignore them.

@Bloodline
If that is the case then I apologise, but reading through the stuff that has been posted over the last 24 hours or so it has put me in a total rage. Not the most mature of states to be in but hey, Ive been mostly away from this scene proper for a few weeks so to come back and be so rudely reminded of the mentality of the few has put me there.
The reason I finger some AROS people is (a) Smithy, his wording and comments and (b) The smileys used by Fabio indicating the tone of his responses.
How a reply to a friend in a thread offering him what I had done could snowball to what has been posted and said about me online since surprises me, or doesn't depending on whether or not I am giving the people who inhabit this scene the benefit of the doubt or not.
This is a blatant attempt to force the issue in the most public way possible.

Good work Dave! Don't care about the trolls!

The only place where I may have made a sarcastic use of ONE smiley is a post on ANN, in response to a moderator's post. It was meant tongue in cheek, and I'm really surprised you are using that as an excuse to entrench yourself behind your pride...
-
@fabio
Entrench myself? Excuse? No. I consider this whole exercise of his a stitch up however if I was entrenching myself I wouldn't be working with Markus now would I?
@Thread
I now know where the "few hours" came from, this is due to Smithy or someone who advised him misreading too much into two of my posts, subtracting the time from one into the other.
I have sent Fabio in PM one of the directory listings that shows when the build was kicked off in October for the September build tree which is the last one I have.

Relax Dave, we are all very excited to see this port. I think that some of us, myself included, can get a little too impatent about such things.

No DaveP, since your are the one distributing the modified code to Markus, you will be in violation of the APL if you do not give the modified source to AROS Devs.

@Dammy
Care to point out what part of the AROS Public License covers the transfer of source code ( not executables ) between parties that grants the AROS development team to demand any modifications made by me, from me?
Posting the respective points, with commentary on how they apply would be most helpful.
Dave.

It was indeed a blatent attempt to force the issue, but look at it from my point of view. If I had suddenly announced that I'd ported (say) Sim City 4 to OS4, then didn't answer any questions about it for 2 weeks, while at the same time posting on other forums, what would you conclude? Exactly... so that is why I forced the issue.
but reading through the stuff that has been posted over the last 24 hours or so it has put me in a total rage

Which comments put you in a rage? There were a fair few comments on ANN doubting you did what you said you did (which motivated me to start the thread to find out the truth - see my reason above) - including 2 ANN moderators. But really, you can't doubt that this is to be deserved from the way you have behaved over the past year. You reap what you sew.
Anyway, although I personally will probably never use AROS on the PPC, I think it's excellent news for everyone in the Amiga community that it exists, and I'm sorry for doubting you, and I hope I've explained why.

two crap os.you could take bets on which one is going to crash first :-D
-
@smithy
I dont think Im that interested in what you think my "behaviour" has been, reaping or sowing or ANN moderators views on the world, but I do appreciate your apology.
-
I stand corrected.
