Title: Emule for Amiga
Post by: voytech on January 12, 2004, 11:56:33 AM
eMule - finally we have Amiga (and MorphOS) port of this very popular p2p client. You can download ver0.2  here (http://www.rusback.org/files/Bourriquet_0.2.lha).  You can see it, on screenshots here (http://www.rusback.org/background/bourriquet_server.jpg), and here (http://www.rusback.org/background/bourriquet_research.jpg).

Have fun downloading stuff..

You need betterstring.mcc mui library not included, you can fond it from aminet.

After i installed that it start to work, at least a bit ;-)

You need allso server.met file that can found from web, try google

It crash when i tried to connect server.

Bourriquet is not yet usable, this page exists only to show it is being developped, that's all. You will only be able to connect to a server and search for files, but you will not be able to download since it is not yet implemented. I don't undestand why this news is on nearly every Amiga site, it's far too early.

Anyway, Rusback is doing a nice job doing his own client (helped with SixK an others) only using edonkey protocol documentations)

Today i contact autor of Bourriquet and he write me:

"it's about one version DEV (0.2.1), not multitasking,
little buggy, and a lot of buttons don't works for the moment. Just connection and research(... just name or keywords) works correctly..."

Used SnoopDos to figure out what I was missing and downloaded the
missing components from Aminet. After that I got it up and running.

Several servers kicked me out. And I also got some crashes. But was
able to do some search if I found a compatible server.

Unfortunatly as some mentioned this program isn't finished yet and not
much happens when you press the download button.

Looks quite good though! :-)

Looks good :-D

Is it really a great idea to include a screenshot with Amiga Forever serials and kickstart images visible though?

P2P is a nice tool for some things, but I dread to think of the impact widespread software piracy would have on the Amiga/MOS platforms :-x

Fact: DirectConnect is the best file share available.

A port of DC++ (http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net) could be possible.

ATM AmiGift, works great . . . .needs only few fine tunings, the most ixemul.library related.

You will see . . . .soon :-)

What's wrong with DC? Don't say the servers. If you can't be arsed to share enough of course you're going to be left on the 1 - 10GB share hubs.

>What's wrong with DC? Don't say the servers. If you can't be arsed to share enough of course you're going to be left on the 1 - 10GB share hubs
<------------------>

There is nothing wrong in DC/DC++ itself. But _some_ of the hubs.. jesus christ. Some underage kidz running and acting as halfnazis. And if that wasn't enough already, we also have a bunch of god damn whiners begging to open more slots.
And when they a) dont get response b) gets negative response, usually you get a nice'n'friendly "f*ck you!" back.

Luckily this doesn't happen in more "pro" hubs (100gb+) but it's pretty annoying when it happens.

Anyways.. a couple short stories...

One time I was downloading something which transferred very slowly.. like 1-2k/s .. as it was the only place where I was able to find it and I wasn't in a hurry, I kept it on and on. Meanwhile I was uploading 100kb worth every second .. and what happened.. the second day i got kickbanned due to leeching :-)

Oh, and twice I was kickbanned for sharing kazaa files aswell... one(1) forgotten file I didn't even know existed, among 30gb of mp3s.

And if it was only me.. but it happens to pretty much everyone I know.

uh..did I mention the very poor transfer speeds compared to Bit Torrent already? :)
Title: Re: Emule for Amiga
Post by: JoNty on January 13, 2004, 02:54:49 PM
Poor transfer speeds? Yeah, if you waste your time downloading off someone on dial-up. Other than that, the rest is true. I soppose DC's for the more "pro" file sharers.

BTW, there are some really good file sharing IRC chans.
