The following column on the 10 most crucial computers to date appeared in the Houston Chronical on Dec 5, and includes the Amiga 1000 in the list :

I never had one (I came in with an A500) but I firmly believe it put the kind of power in peoples hands (Everyday people according to Arrested Development) that had only dreamed THEIR computer could carry out such tasks.

The Amigas history is pretty damn amazing.

(I have intentionally opted not to comment on the Amigas future, although I believe that has the potential to be pretty amazing too...)

As Matthew of Austin put it: "The Amiga broke new ground in advanced graphics and sound processing, multitasking and graphical user interfaces. It was the first computer system capable of real-time video editing at a reasonable price. The use of separate co-processors for video, sound, and other tasks to offload computing requirements from the CPU onto more specialized chips foreshadowed today's advanced sound and video processors doing exactly the same thing."

This reminds me of modern day Greeks. They love to speak of past glories, but modern day Greece is not that glorious (although, not bad either). Funny how we use our best words to describe the Amiga only in past tense. Ahhh...  the glory of Amiga, may it shine forever!

Amiga is nowere on the list.
C-64 is 6 on the list.

You're looking at the original article.  There was a followup to that article (it's referenced at the bottom of the original article).
This is the followup article (http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/business/2274196), and at the bottom of that page there is an updated list that puts the A1000 in 7th place.
