Cheyenne Technology Corridor
Continues to add High Tech Firms
North Las Vegas – Today, the Cheyenne Technology Corridor welcomed another high tech tenant. Genesi USA, a computer systems company, has agreed to terms with Northport, a Jackson Shaw development in the CTC. The company will move into its facility in January.
Genesi SARL, a Luxembourg based company, introduced the Pegasos in October 2003. Culminating over five years of development, the Pegasos is a high-performance PowerPC based modular MicroATX mainboard for use in a variety of applications, including desktops, workstations, servers and communications products. Based on industry standards, such as Open Firmware, the Pegasos supports multiple operating systems including varieties of Linux and BSD. The Pegasos is the first new hardware and operating system platform brought to market in many years. Pegasos computers run multiple operating systems, including MorphOS, a new non-UNIX based operating system, OpenBSD, the standard for security in operating systems and various distributions of Linux for the PowerPC®. Genesi has been designated as an IBM Business Partner and carries the Ready for IBM Technology mark on four of its products, PegasosPPC, PegXLin, MorphOS, and OpenBSD for PegasosPPC. Product details are available at . Genesi USA will be the focus of US computer assembly operations for Genesi.
When asked why Genesi USA chose the CTC as its new home, Paul Adams said, “After evaluating Nevada, Maine, Alabama, Florida and Texas as possible locations, we determined that the best overall business climate was in Southern Nevada. The other states offered many things, including free land for our facility and a year’s worth of free rent; but, in the end, the favorable tax structure, the assistance of the City of North Las Vegas and the Community College of Southern Nevada provided a business climate that was much more supportive than anything we had seen in other states.”
Mike Carroll, Vice President of Development for Jackson-Shaw said, “We are very proud to welcome Genesi USA to Northport. The CTC continues to thrive and add new businesses to the North Las Vegas economy. We look forward to more successes for the CTC.”
Mike Majewski, who is the Economic Development Director for the City of North Las Vegas said, “It took a community-wide effort to secure Genesi in North Las Vegas, but the potential economic impacts to the CTC and all of Southern Nevada is phenomenal. This partnership between the City, real estate developers, and education was recently honored as the recipient of the Excellence in Economic Development award sponsored by the International Economic Development Council.”
Through a public/private alliance, the Cheyenne Technology Corridor is bringing more technology businesses to Southern Nevada. The partnership includes the City of North Las Vegas, the Brennan Brothers, Jackson Shaw, RDS/Insight, LLC, Stoltz Management and Harsch Investment Properties.
The Cheyenne Technology Corridor is an integrated, accessible and diversified technology district offering advanced systems and infrastructure, state-of-the-art transportation and communication alternatives, and a knowledgeable and experienced workforce.

One thing the new location will be used for is for Reseller training - technical and otherwise (marketing, entrepreneurship, etc). Summit meetings which allow policies, promotional and educational programs, and the design and improvement of documentation are also part of the picture.
Another aspect BBRV and I are talking about is called Meet The Partners. When there is a gathering we want any local partners of resellers to be there, and partners in Genesi ventures like IBM. We want people to be able to meet, see the possibilities, learn from each others' strategies, and find new working relationships.
We also want to get a lot of developers together with core people and work on technical educational fronts. It's an opportunity to get developers together and define ways to work on more ambitious, large scale projects. Though MorphOS is the centerpiece of OS focus, all the other OSes will be important to many developers too, and to resellers especially.
Then there is the trade show advantage: Las Vegas has one of the largest convention centers in the US, and home of CES and COMDEX among others. This location will provide the ability to host many productive events over coming years and serve as a nexus just before, during, and after those shows.
It is likely that whenever the location has a more imortant event going on that net conferencing, visual, audio, IRC - the whole shooting match of live coverage (and related materials will be 'cast from the Genesi USA site/location.
Stay tuned, we are going to make this office work for us and those who are hitched up with us! : } ...And at this time I'd like to hear YOUR ideas {I already know about the showgirls and the Chippendale Nerdz With Muscles fantasies ; }

PS to T_Bone:
Please DO NOT have pizza delivered there until after we have announced our Grand Opening! At that point I think something with charcoal-grilled lamb, feta cheese and prime sun-dried tomatoes would be most appropriate ; }
-
Mmmm, you sure know how to pick a pizza there greenboy.
-
What is a CTC?
-
I know! There are many ways to Be Pizza, and tonight I will experience yet another! Mmmm-hmmm! : }
...Perhaps our first "live-feed" net & local event will have to have catering for the developers/resellers and staff who are there. I'm getting real excited - and real hungry - just thinking about what this could mean to us.
Of course there is a lot of work ahead to make sure we find wise uses of the resources we have been blessed with. I hope we can rise to the occasion, and give others reason to believe in us, and themselves.

Cheyenne Technology Corridor - as described in the PR, and its links. Lots of development of this type going on in the Las Vegas region now. I'm not all that interested in gambling towns, but Las Vegas really is beginning to diversify - it's pretty amazing what the desert is becoming!

It's quite a phenomenon, in fact our State is one of
the fastest growing in the nation. The amount of
development even within Nevada's smaller cities
(Reno for instance) is staggering, I've seen entire
neighborhoods built up within a period of a few
years. LOTS of industry in general is moving to
Nevada.

I always liked Las Vegas, though I was never into the gambling and shows. My mom used to live there (actually got Elvis's autograph when she worked as a teller at the Flamingo) and I spent a summer there in my college days. The desert is beautiful; we used to go up into the mountains -- really nice. But that was a while back. I guess North Las Vegas has changed. When I was there, it was on fire fairly often (summer of Watts riots, etc.).
Anyway, this is interesting news; I wouldn't have guessed Las Vegas for Genesi's USA offices but I've got to say it seems more plausible than another contender -- Maine. ;-)

All the mentioned states had some good incentives and local benefits. But I have to say I was pulling for Las Vegas, after seeing what was happening in the region!
I too enjoyed the surrounding desert and mountains : }

This seems like a good idea. I take it that this centre is to promote genesi and its products in the area. I wonder, will there be an asian equivilent? It seems like that would also be a great place to be because of Asias or more so chinas economy improving and their stance against Microsoft and intel!
You'd have to agree that china/asia has huge advantages for people willing to take on new markets with new technology. Its like the industrial revolution all over again, but high tech and no where more so than china!

Use to live in Las Vegas and North Las Vegas was just around corner...
Curious where in North Las Vegas it is located....
-

Hey I lived behind Rancho High School and I too remember the Riots..... But I survived...
-
Just to ramble on some more......\
When we lived there Howard Hughes was still alive... And rumor had it that he was shacked up on the top floor of the Desert Inn and did NOT go out in public. He had a germ phobia..... was afraid to be around people whereby he could contract illness.. He was definitely rich and odd....

With that bucket on your head... we may think you to be Elvis..
He was in concert there many times when we lived there....
:-D :-D

Elvis had his best days BEFORE Vegas. For us, we think it will be the opposite : }
-
Ah yes, Nevada. The best state to incorporate a business due to the relaxed tax laws, the flexible shareholder laws, and the lovely legal hookers. I remember it well. :-)
