Title: MPlayer for MorphOS Update
Post by: Targhan on November 05, 2003, 07:10:13 AM
An upgrade of MPlayer for MorphOS is available from MorphZone (http://www.morphzone.org).  The port is maintained by Nicolas DET, and the new version is 0.91.

I know of a programmer who says he intends to port MPlayer to OS 4.0 as soon as OS 4.0 is ready. I just hope the author of the MorphOS port doesnt mind sending him the source code.

Source is there, both for MOS and Linux, easily downloaded, and falls under the GPL. As far as I remember the GPL, anyone can use it as long as they upload their own version to the source tree.

The MPlayer source apparently includes a lot of MOS-specific system calls. Porting it to OS4 won't be too easy, and a fully working GCC will be necessary.

Edit: and from what I hear, OS4 will include an ffmpeg.library anyway which will handle movie decoding for its own player.

There's nothing to stop anyone porting it to 68k or WOS AmigaOS now...could be useful.

Hmm, that doesnt sound too good. But MOS is more Amiga-like than Linux, so it should be easier to port.

Is this top secret leaked dev-info? :) I like it.

Hi !

There is only a very few MorphOS "specific" system call.

It's quiet hard to port something like MPlayer on WarpOS (I think).
Amiga OS 68k port should be easy.

About OS4, I don't care...

Bye

Whereas I do, which is why I intend to port it to OS4. Of course, 99% of the hard work will already have been done by you, for which I am very thankful. An example of MOS development benefitting OS4, something I feel can work both ways.
