The AmigaOS 4.0 tour is coming to the UK! The South West Amiga Group is proud to present the "OS4 on Tour South West" in Bath, UK.
Click here (http://www.petergordon.org.uk/os4/) for more information!

hmmm im trying to think of an abbreviation I can stick on my T-shirt... OS4.0 on tour 2003 south west of england is a bit long winded to fit on the back of my t-shirt with the likes of WoAse, Alt-WoA and BAS... :-)
-
OOTSWOE 2003? ;-)
-
GOATSE?
Sorry.
Probably I have SAIRS (Slashdot-acquired Internet repulsion syndrome), but do all these Amiga show abbreviations really *have* to remind me of goatse.cx? I think I have developed new pathways and ganglia in my spinal cord; I've got a finger reflex that pulls my mouse pointer away from all similar links...
-
lol... errr... yeah... :-)
-
Hummm... Link doesn't seem to be working?
-
Hmmm... seems we're having a little bit of server trouble. I'm sure it'll be back up soon. I can't find out more info until I get home from work, but hopefully it'll already be resolved then...
Edit: its back up.

Am I just being way too grumpy or does anyone else think that they should be expending the time/money/energy that they're using for this "OS 4 world tour" on FINISHING THE FRELLING OS?!?[/i] Why worry about PR? The folks who are waiting for this ARE gonna buy it, and it's much more likely that they will do so the sooner it comes out! It's nice that they're being very outgoing and responsive to the community, but does any of this get OS 4 up and running any quicker or better? :-? Help me out, folks. I'm just not getting it.

The South West Amiga Group are a usergroup, we are not the developers of OS4, therefore your point is moot.
-
@DarkHawke
I think you must've gotten out of the wrong side of the bed this morning.
Firstly, the money being spent here is going to be by enthusiasts, not by the developers. The time and effort being expended is worth it IMHO, as it enables the many of us who do not have a PPC based machine to see it for real. There is no impact on development time as it's doubtful that the Freiden brothers are to appear.
Every week that goes by sees improvement to the coding and providing that we get to see the latest snapshot, we could be seeing something close to what might be considered a beta.
With that end-of-year festivities (cannot remember what it's called now :-D ) coming up, something like this can act as a reminder that it's not that far off and to keep some money back. I'm only going to buy an AmigaOne once I either know a release date or have seen OS4 in action, to see how complete it is.
The Roadshow will give me a chance to see whats happening, find out the faces (or should that be feces? :-D ) behind the avatars and :pint: :pint: :pint: with the likes of BobsonSirJohnny etc.

Same here! And hopefully my christmas bonus will help pay for it! (Oh damn have to buy christmas presents as well :-D)
Having read-up more on OS4 and the features (planned and/or implemented) I get the good impression they are actually thinking about software design very hard. So as to end up with something clean, not like some other OS'es ;-).
The only problem with the show been in Bath is to get there from Derby I have to go past Birmingham and that nast M42/M6 bit of road. Eeek!
_____________
wheres my sig?

hehe. For those of you considering using the train, the
Train Journey Planner (http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/planmyjourney/) might be of help.

Actually, one of the organisers has one, but we can't get it fixed in time for the show, but apart from that nobody local seems to have one.... :-(
-

Hey hopefully me and my A1 will be driving down from Nottingham in my old Camper.
I'll probably be a nervous wreck by the time I get off the M1 onto M42 let alone the 90 odd miles down the M5.
So derby shoudn't be too much of a problem.
:-P
-
Gonna try and make it... Bath isn't all_that far for me 8-)
-
Just booked the day off work :-)
-
@LinchpiN
cool dude, I'll get to meet you there :-)
-
Count me in, my girlf lives in Chippenham so I can drop the car there and get the train to Bath.
I've been caught in the Bath traffic jam too many times! :-P
-
w00t, looks like theres going to be a few new people to meet :-)

OS4 is nearly finished.... I am sure there are developers who develope for it in meantime also...
I personally think PR is very important also, just look where commodore ended up...
-
Do'h, my girlfriend just told me (she thinks) her works xmas doo is that day. Not sure I can make the 300 mile round trip in time for the party.
This stinks :-(
**EDIT**
Hey TheJackal, is the Eurocom Xmas doo the 13th December? (My girlfriend works there). Small world eh.
**EDIT**
-
Just construct a robotic replacement of yourself to go to the christmas do ;-)

Great idea :-) i'll start work right away!

I think I'll be giving it a miss. Yes, I know I threatened to arrange a similar event myself a few months back, but back then it seemed like a Good Idea TM. A week before my birthday, and with any luck OS4.0 should have already been released, or at least only a matter of a Few More Weeks TM before release, so a journey to Bath to check it out falls slightly below "sane" on the Amiga evangelists appreciation society sanity scale, where 10 is "very sane" and 0 is "below insanity" (I'd give it one*).
Soz guys (and gals) but anybody making 300 mile round trips probably rank -7 on my scale. If it was a full Amiga show I might reconsider.

Ours is on the 6th, a Saturday. Odd I though they used to be on Fridays. :-D
Who's you girlfriend? Just nosy :-o
[/off topic]
Any news on the venue/parking etc? I think I've roped some of my friends to come to, but one lives in Harrogate and thus is a bit of a trek. This might mean booking a hotel for the Sat night, so driving back on Sunday is less of a hassle.

Cool, looks like I might be going to see OS4 then :-)

Not sure if it is safe to reveal her identity (until I check with her), you will just have to guess :-) .
-
So who is up forming "EMAG"
Got a nice ring to it.....
East Midlands Amiga Group
Radfoo ?
Jackal ?
Also AGAFaster, Jumpship, Me
Linchpin when he moves up his way
Ryu

Yeah... About time we had an Amiga group in the middle of the country... ;-)
Stimpy (interested in principle)

There used to be a user group in notts, but they where all into warez and few of them were members of hellfire.
I know 4 people here in notts who are waiting for an OS4 release before coming back from XP AMD land.
I'll set up a website and see if we can get some interest.
-
So who is up forming "EMAG"
Not a bad idea :-)
-
Hmmm....I guess this is an excuse to visit Bath.
-
How about some more OS4 tours here in the US?
You can come to Louisville anytime.

Well it shouldn't be to difficult for me to figure out,... out of the ~200 staff there are only about, 4 women! :-D
Anyhow probably not the best idea to sprawl her name across a public forum! :smack:
-
ahh Chris Chris Chris... there might be more to come on whats happening at the show :-) and besides its not just about going to see OS4... theres all the faces to names that has to be done... plus theres the requiered drinking session too... ;-)
-
oh just for interests sake I will probably travelling down on the friday via train and staying in the youth hostel and going home saturday night... Unless I come into a conciderable ammount of cash, in which case I'll stay saturday night too and go home sunday :-)
-
oh and I'm still trying to work out a good abbreviation for the event... we on #amiga.org came up with A.R.S.E :-D Amiga Roadshow Southwest England... but that doesnt quite sound right now does it.... :-)
-
A.R.S.E

@JurassicCamper, Jackal et al:
I thought was the only one here from the east mids! I went looking for user groups in the area here a few years ago, at the time i think there was one in leicester, which was a bit far for me.
I live in S Derbys (think it says on my profile) and work in Notts. If anyone wants to set up a group i'm in there with ya...
Martyn.
-
I live too far north for an east midlands grounp really.... I did once try to setup a usergroup up here but got little interest, even though I know theres quite a few of us amiga users round here... seemed at the time they wasnt really interested...
-
cool i work in notts
Agafaster is from notts
radfoo / jackal / jumpship are in derbyshire
i say that more that enough to get things started
-
@Ryu
Obviously I'll keep checking what is going on, and may re-evaluate my decision. It's probably going to be easiest to get a train (can't be A.R.S.E.'d :-) to drive, have enough of that throughout the week). If I get there after mid-day then it will take 2hr46, before then it is close to three and a half hours.... looks like it will cost a minimum of £25, and that's if I know which train I want to catch back. Not bad I guess.
I might be there, I might not.

So who is up forming "EMAG"
Well after reading many people complaining that bath was to far to go for a show etc. and previously no one ever organised meets and shows in the middle of the country.
I thought it would be time to do something about it.
maybe, I'm in notts
I thought i was the only amiga user left in nottingham.
There were tonnes of us when i was at trent uni.

Funny thing was I seemed to be the *only* Amiga user at my Uni :-D
EMAG sounds like a good idea. However I don't currently have an Amiga! (Well I do, but its up in Hull at my parents).
Quite a few of the artists here still like amigas mainly the spanish guys. I think I saw a new A4000 been delievered a few years back when I started!
@Radfoo
you can tell your girlfriend my extention number at work is 360. :-P
-
I wanna be a member of ARSE!!!
-
So who is up forming "EMAG"
Count me in. Ill be up there in a year hopefully. Besides, i have a nice 306 XSI so 200 miles is a doddle at 125mph :-P
-
I'll be going to Bath.
@Linchpin
Race ya ;)
