(http://home.wanadoo.nl/jacqueline.b/aomlogoklein.JPG)Behind the scenes, a lot of people have been working on the launch of a new, printed, monthly (11 issues a year) worldwide Amiga Magazine.
Amiga.org Magazine will will aim at Amiga and Pegasos users and will have 52 pages in black & white with a full-colour cover. The magazine wil feature: news, interviews, reviews, previews, in-depth articles, 'how-to's, tutorials and lots more.
Issue 0 will be launched at the Benelux Amiga/Pegasos Show (http://www.beneluxamigashow.com/) and will be an introduction to the magazine. At the show you will be able to subscribe to the magazine and you can take issue 0 with you directly. We will also launch a website for the magazine, where you can subscribe and find more information about Amiga.org Magazine.
After several weeks issue 1 will be launched to subscribers and will be sent to retailers that carry the magazine in their product range.
More information will be made available soon. For questions and suggestions mail kees@amiga.org

Some early advice Kees: put everything through a spellchecker, including announcements. It doesn't look good when the first announcement of a new magazine contains spelling mistakes.
(e.g "isseu" instead of "issue")
Having said that, I wish the magazine all the best. The more publications we have available to us the better.
:-D
-
Thanks ... I'm glad we have a spell checker on the team :-)
-
Uhh. very cool....
price ???
How to subscribe ??
-
Sounds good... i know i should be asking in the email, but i havnt got email setup on this machine.
I wonder, how much it will cost
and i wonder if ordinary people like myself wil lbe able to submit material we've put together in the hope of seeing it in the magazine.
I've writen stuff for Amiga.org before, and its actualy ended up in all sorts of places. I've got a coupla interviews up my sleave, which i will no doubt post to Amiga.org exclusivly, but i wonder if they'd get a chance in the magazine.
-
more info will be made public soon ...
And yes, you can submit articles to the magazine :)
Your very welcome to contribute ..
Kees
-
Now that is a suprise, not even the current poll give it away :-o
Great news guys, very unexpected and something positive, now send in the link for more info :-)
-

Your very welcome to contribute ..
Fantastic, this motivates me to do something, and with my spare time these days (being unemployed and all that) doing anything is very welcome for myself.
-
wow , splendid.... where to subscribe ??
do you take paypal ?
CUME ON!!! i want it...I WANT IT NOW!
cheers
-
Details will follow shortly .. :-)
-
Neat. Printed magazine with real paper pages. It's been a long time I
have ordered one... I'm waiting for more info. .
-
WOW! What a pleasent suprise! It takes balls to start a new Amiga magazine these days. Anyhow, i have an article written some years ago but have never been published. Would be nice to get it on Amiga.org magazine`s pages.
I just hope this mag will last longer than other, discontinued print magazines. CHEERS!
-
Excellent news! I look forward to seeing the results of this endeavour :-) I hope you get many, many submissions and have a long printing run.
And I concur with bhoggett, spell- and grammar- checkers (of both the human and digital varieties) will be a valuable ####et... and I'm certain some people here will volunteer *orders big Acme Flashing Arrows and points them at himself* (why do I suddenly feel like Wile E. Coyote??)
But seriously, best of luck, I'm sure this announcement and magazine will make many people happy :-D
-
If only the [censored] trolls would take notice and spend their time on something this worthy...
Keep up the good work, folks.
-
I look forward to seeing the results
-
looks like I might be subscribing to an amiga magazine again....
-
GREAT!
:-D
Count us in!
How about a subscription deal for every new Pegasos II owner?
R&B
-
bbrv: great idea! , now thats infact a very good idea! ..
cheers
-
We might be able to work something out indeed :-)
I like the idea :-)
-
This magazine idea is a good one.
I used to really like getting Amiga Format, AmigaWorld and all the others from the newstand.
Oh I know, this won't hit my local newstand for a while, but who knows....maybe someday.
-
Hope you will be getting them to a uk supplier then i would have two magazine subscriptions . :-)
-
@amigamad
That will be no problem :-)
-
GREAT t t tt t t t ttt t :roflmao:
-
:-o :-o :-o
:pint: :-D
-
If you want to do a Coverdisk, why not stick AROS on there so that the disk can self boot.
But also it can have a MOS directory, a 68K directory and a AOS4 directory for stuff....
:-)
-
Great news. Looking forward to seeing a new paper Amiga magazine. I will definitely be having a read, and maybe subscribe.
Sounds good, and looking forward to seeing ways to contribute!
-
Thats interesting news. There is already a good magazine - Total Amiga, that I buy from my local Amiga dealer (http://www.livewiresystems.ca) when it comes out.
But, I will grab a copy when it becomes available and have a look-see. More Amiga-related reading is always a good thing.
-
This should be cool - a print magazine that allows contributions for all the Amigacentric platforms!
-
Sounds quite good.
Anything sorted distribution wise?
-
Yes, that is it greenboy. Amiga can mean "friends" too...;-) The Alternate OS market is bigger in total and this could draw in a few more subscriptions from PowerPC oriented communities. Naturally, the foundational concepts come, as this site, from the AmigaOS of the former Commodore Business Machines, but a broader mindset would benefit all involved.
We will be very happy to support the magazine and feel like we ought to offer this to new Pegasos II owners.
Great!
R&B :-)
-
WIth the principle of try before you buy, I ####ume (jeez you can't say A S S U M E ) the first issue is free, downloadable PDF?
Maybe all of the issues are free downloadable PDFs?
@Bill
Hey, you the benefactor there then? :-)
-
We would like to be one of them if we can!
:-)
R&B
P.S. Where were you this weekend?! We had a great game of PegPong on ANN (http://www.ann.lu/comments2.cgi?view=1064145406&category=forum&start=1&73) and you would have made undoubtedly excellent contributions! :-)
-
@ DaveP
We're still thinking about that ... :-)
-
Hi Bill,
I was in hospital having a tumour removed from my stomach and then sleeping it off.
It seems too late to join the party, perhaps another time.
Dave.
-
This should be cool - a print magazine that allows contributions for all the Amigacentric platforms!
Are you saying that Total Amiga, created on Amithlon, and which has regular contributions from MorphOSland, doesn't? :-?
-
Hope you GET WELL SOON!
We need you around when it is PegPong time...;-)
Hey Kees, what about a PegPong column? R&B and DaveP...sounds hiphop! :-P

xeron: I don't think I typed THAT ; } - try not to read something into what I DID type that is not there ; }
-
@greenboy
sorry, but your original statement implies that print magazines covering all amigacentric solutions don't exist, which is why I asked.
-
xeron, just going too fast to examine my posts for any problematic inferences. I'll try to do better next time : }

Sorry JoannaK, But what exactly have we been doing at Total Amiga Magazine for the last few years?
Printing a Magazine on ether? BTW in case you didn`t know, we too also welcome contributions
Aside from all that good luck to Kees, well done on securing funding for your magazine.

Allright Kees!
Congratulations for getting this new Amiga/PPC related mag off the ground! It is very exciting. I can tell you that many people want another mag available MONTHLY. It takes forever for Total Amiga - which I enjoy btw. Your logo looks great.
Good luck
magnetic
-
Oh yes, congratulations Amiga.org team. I look forward to seeing this mag for myself.
If it turns out to be good, i'll be subscribing to two Amiga mags for the first time in ages ;-)
-
xeron and greenboy: i say the same as xeron , sounded like an attempt to troll :)
now run and buy TOTAL AMIGA and yes it does have mos news in there ...
-
@Mikey_C
Some people have incorrect perceptions of Total Amiga magazine. I've noticed that almost all of them have never read it, which probably explains the prejudice.
BTW, I've seen you in flesh dude, and you don't look anything like that avatar.
:-P
-
IT WAS NOT AN ATTEMPT TO TROLL
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Amigans are TOO FRICKIN' used to WANTING to see spaceships (and other cigar-shaped objects) where they are not - and too used to playing the same type of game from the other angle to believe that everybody else isn't into that game.
It's a cigar, dammit! ; }
-
I cant wait to get it .I just have to resubscribe to total amiga magazine 1st. :-)
-
My partner Cybereye (business partner not life partner:-P) had a subscription for a year so I saw a few copies of Total Amiga. It looked pretty well put togther.
-
greenboy: ok be my cigar then please :==))
anyway i understood that you wasnt
but now when you said spaceships and
cigars ..well lol ok ... you are green
made me think of spaceships.
are you an alien in a cigar formed spaceship?
:=)
keep on rockin ! :)
-
MIkey_c: Can't really tell.. Have never seen single issue of that
magazine so can't comment it.
But right here and now.. After this inspirating (and way off topic)
introduction and hearing you are making it.. I'm a lot less interested
of ordering it. I have seen enough of that 'material' of yours (for
free) at various sites...
-
@JoannaK
That's just stupid, if you don't mind me saying so. First, you can see plenty of issues in PDF format on their website, so don't criticise a magazine for bias until you've read it. Second, Mikey is not responsible for the editorial content or policy.
This comment is no better than the stupid anti-Amiga.org Magazine comments others have made elsewhere. Why can't people engage their brains before writing?
-
Joanna, there is a world of difference between one person's avid committment to promoting the mag and the content, which are written by a range of people and have covered AOS, MorphOS and AROS in the last few issues.
Total Amiga perjaps suffers in its public image because it is produced on a non-profit basis and might therefore appear to be amateurish. It shouldn't be perceived like this, as it is well written, well laid out and certainly worth the modest asking price. Many of the back issues can be downloaded for free from the TA site.
One of my favourite Amiga mags was the black and white JAM that was very dodgy at times, but again, a worthwhile read.
As for a new mag? Excellent. I'll be buying.
A LinuxPPC section would be great, so that at least both sides have something in common :)

DaveP, I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Will there be a World Politics section??? ;-)
- Mike
-
-
Will Issue 0 be available to people who cannot possibly be at the Benelux Show? :)
Will the magazine's reviews have little bubble blurbs that would detail how a piece of software works in MOS, OS4, OS3.x and UAE environements? (IE: Like with the A1200 was recently released, magazine reviews would indicate how a piece of software would run on the A1200 vs the A500, or would detail improvements with AGA support, etc.)
-
This is the best news I've heard all month. That's 2 mags I need to subscribe to now.
-
Agreed.
I also like the idea of a "Linux section" (sounds like an operation!!) as, I suspect quite a few of us A1'ers will probably end up dual booting.
@ DaveP .. hey, hope they got all the nasties out.... & speedy recovery.
Paul & Sue.
-
print must be in low cost countries like Turkey this can help your price performanse and more sales.
-
?
Sweatshop printing ?? :-o
-
I was in hospital having a tumour removed from my stomach and then sleeping it off.
Hey Miffy, hope you recover soon! It's pretty dull outside without the harmless little bunny :-)
-
Yoodoo: After my previous posting: I have now been skimmign thru 3
last issues that are available as PDF:s... In the end. I like the
magazine, on avaregely there are couple pages not so interesting stuff
(putting it in politely) but many of the articles like DTP and Image
editing tutorials looks really good.
And to make this all good. I decided to order latest and previous one
(15 and 16) of Total Amiga Magazine.
-
Good idea Kees.
Why are you shouting bias ? for something no one has read you people must be fortune tellers or blindly attacking for no reason at all.
-
@ paul_Gadd
I edited your post alittle .. :-D
-
Thank goodness for Amiga.Org magazine, I guess this means I can cancel my subsciption to Total Amiga magazine.
FINALLY! better late than never, they should really apologize to the tree's who sacrificed their existance for that worthless collection of tripe.
-
Ah ok, i thought it was Keys not Kees :-D
-
I also like the idea of a "Linux section" (sounds like an operation!!) as, I suspect quite a few of us A1'ers will probably end up dual booting.
Yuck, no, please no linux. It has no place in an Amiga mag - get Linux Format if you want to read about that sort of thing.
-
@ Lando,
Why shouldn`t linux be covered ? It`s an OS that can run on both the A1 and the Peg. I`m sure there`s quiet a lot that could be written about the PPC specific side of things, especially seeing as most Linux mags I`ve read always ####ume you`re using an x86 machine.
Things like what are the best distros, how to optimize for PPC..
*edit* Methinks the profanity checker doesn`t like the word a-s-s-u-m-e :-P
-
Now this is some great news!!! I just hope to see the issue 0 as a PDF so those of us that cant make the show will have it to read!! Fantastic job! Keep up the good work!
-
Is there enough material fo 572 pages of new content a year? Will you be using a really big font and double spacing? :-) Are you going to produce it on Amiga's? If so, I have a professional type Amiga desktop publishing program and a giant stack of updates and fonts disks to sell you. ;-)

Let's face it, if he did Amiga North Thames User Group would probably have much higher attendances. ;-)
-
put everything through a spellchecker
Have a human proof read everything instead. Electronic spell checkers don't work with homonyms.
"Their ewe Gogh ladle bouy." :-)
-
Is the "Amiga" part only A1 or is it for Classic Amigas, too?
-
Amiga should be Amiga....
dont see how they shall fill over 15pages a month with a1 news only...
-
Methinks the profanity checker doesn`t like the word a-s-s-u-m-e
Maybe that's 'cause a55ume makes an a55 of u and me ;-)
Regarding the mag, cool! The logo looks quite a lot like CU Amiga's.
-
Why shouldn`t linux be covered ? It`s an OS that can run on both the A1 and the Peg.
Just a personal thing. I don't like it (I installed it on my PC back when the AmigaDE SDK was released). It's not Amiga-related, there is reams of Linux information and dedicated mags available elsewhere if you need it, and the space could be better used elsewhere.
If you want to extend the magazine to cover all OS's that can potentially run on Amiga/Peg hardware then you'd have a Linux68k/LinuxApus section, LinuxPPC section, Mac OSX section, Mac OS8/9 section, AmigaOS section, MorphOS section, AROS section, and then there's the dozen or so OS's in the process of being ported to Pegasos... Heck you can even run Windows if you want using VirtualPC or Bochs.
I would just prefer it if the mag kept to covering OS's that are actually Amiga-compatible (MOS, AOS, Aros...) as this is what I'm interested in (and I guess most others too) :-)
-
Will Issue 0 be available to people who cannot possibly be at the Benelux Show? :)
True, if you're going to be giving issue #0 away, why not make it into a PDF file people can get from the downloads section? it should be good advertising if nothing else...
If you haven't guessed by now, I live a bit far from Benelux :-P
-
Nifty. Best of luck, fellas. Makes me all nostalgic for back when I gave a rat's keister and scurried to a nearby Borders to pick up Amiga Format after work to keep up on all things Amiga. SIGH! :-( Oh, well. BTW, decent logo, too!
-
... and so far it seems that no one has discovered a striking resemblance of the mag's logo to the old CUAmiga one. The only difference is the small circle with ".org" inside which previously was placed on the left side. Oh, and to write this comment I've used a pair of difficult words that are possibily wrong spelled and that probably no one will ever understand what I wanted to say :)
Varthall
-
not at all, perfectly understandable...
-
This must be the best news I've heard for years. It's a fact that no matter how easy the web is to access, people still prefer a printed magazine :-)
Hope everyone will do their best to support this!
-
Good initiative !
Would be good to have a good computer mag. regularly again. Used to have all kinds of Amiga related ones but since the Amiga magazines dissapeared I never really fancied picking up a computer magazine from the newsstand, let alone take a subscription on one.
-
Bravo!
Looking forward for it!
I hope to find it on Greece :-)
