Over at AmigaWorld (http://amigaworld.net), those nice Frieden boys have posted some comments in this thread (http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic_id=1140&forum=14&start=0&viewmode=flat&order=0) which reveal some information about the current progress of Amiga OS4.
-
Amigaworld's selected module doesn't exist... all of them :-)
-
Any chance of posting them here?
Work's firewall won't let me into AW.
(Oooh....conspiracy? :lol: )
-
@mikeymike
It happens from time to time, try again in a hour or two.
-
The AW server seemed to go just after this was posted (it's happened before and usually comes back again soon though)
BTW the thread is the "OS4 on AOne? (How far?)" one.
-
@Wilse
The comments are scattered all over the thread
as replies to different posters, so I don't think it'd be
practical.
-
@Eric_Z:
Fair enough.
What's the gist of it then?
-
does not work here too... was anything interesting mentioned?
-
I seem to remember something about graphics.library and P96 on the A1, but I'm afraid I don't know the specifics.
-
@Wilse
The most interesting thing said ,IMO, is that all
that's preventing OS4 to boot up on an A1 atm is a
port of graphics.liberary.

its back up.

Mhm. That's interesting. We are nearly there guys :-)
-
Cheers for that summary link elektro :-D
As Giovanni said - interesting :-D
-
Did they say anything about the VIA patch mentioned by HyperionMP in another thread?
-
Hats of to Hyperion :pint:
Only graphics.library and some P96 Hooks into left todo before it boots into workbench on the A1.
Ethernet USB, timer, keyboard etc done.
No release date, but I dont blame them for that, the way the BGF's slated them last time.
But I'll have it now please as apparently Blind Amiga Fans dont need graphics :lol:

No....

I think it's especially good that after it boots into workbench for the very first time, that it will simultaneously be bug fixed and completely stable.
Now I won't suggest that it could take any additional time beyond merely booting for the first time, because such comments are reserved for and exclusively the domain of Thomas Frieden.
(yes, I read the comments). ;-)
-
Work's firewall won't let me into AW.
Ditto...
It is a conspiracy.... ask the IBM bloke why he did it :-? :-? :-? :-?
-
@MarkTime:
Eh? Whoever said anything about it being perfect first try? The thing is, it has to WORK before it can be released, so it WORKING would be nice to see.
Oh, and it would mean it could be shipped to betatesters. Surely that's important as well ;-)
-
Not sure but I 'think' its coz they have the word 'chat' in the meta tags or something because the msg displayed says its blocked because its chat related ............. I work at the same place as Wilse ;-)

Would you care to explain that comment, or was it just meant to be a cheap shot?
I don't think that Thomas did claim anything like that.

Hmm, and where did I say that ? Where did I say that it will all be completely bugfree ?
Since you try to make it personal, can you please tell me what exactly you are refering to ? Or are you just taking shots ?
-
Instead of postings to forums and news sites. We need a proper official web page to state what is happening: e.g
1. % of project complete
2. Which libraries/devices/resources are complete
3. Which parts are in progress
4. Bug list etc
Even something like something from sourceforge type layout would be useful. (No d/l's obviously)
With links to pics etc.
At least something everyone can refer to and make it easier for us to see how things are going....
What do you think?
;-)

@theguru
I think that, timewise, it is one thing to drop a casual
comment in fora and a different thing entirely to plan,
present and regularly update some sort of official website.
Hyperion developers have better things to do.
(I'm just trying to be realistic, but of course I too would
love to see such a regularly updated site! Perhaps as a
third-party initiative?)

@theguru
You're asking for a gague that is impossible for a layman to understand.
For example, my Eddas chip is 80% done by one measurement ( total workload), 60% done by another measurement (total files completed) and only 30% done by another (total gate density of final compile). I can go around saying 80%, and it would be right. I can also go by 60%, and also be right. Or by 30% and STILL be right.
So how do we measure? I mean, the remaining 20% work estimate might baloon because of some problem with the design that I'd overlooked. Or I finish it, then find a patent that infringes, so I have to rip it out and re-do it again. It's a fustrating process.
