There is an article on UsaToday.com (http://www.usatoday.com) that claims that women are the group of people that play the most games.
"Challenging the stereotype that video gaming is the domain of teenage boys, an industry group Tuesday reported that more women over 18 than young boys are playing games and the average age of players has risen to 29."

This makes you wonder how many female Amigans are around ...
-
Hi,
My gf (Imation) likes Birdie Shoot on MOS. Also she has a history of Mario Bros like games she played a lot.

This is baloney. Pure PC B-S. Sad but true.

Eh? You don't think it's right that wimmin should intrude on our sacred sport of playing computer games, Red? ;-)

Naah not at all :-P I just think studies like these are loaded and BS. From my own personal experience most adult women have very little to know interest in video games, where you can't drag young boys off them. Seems to me women are more prone to answer a survey than young boys.
-
This kind of survey is either extremely naive, or was ordered by a company that sells games for girls. Woman run away for games and technology in general.
Which is a shame, methinks :-)
-
i think it's silly to assume that because women/girls are not as obsessed with games as boys that they "run away from.... technology in general."
that's just WRONG!
i somesome play solitaire (esp in linux), but generally i am bored with games because they aren't intellectually stimulating.
that's why i love image processing so much. it's fun AND stimulating. a real puzzle!
basically, they have to invent better games for ladies. that's all.
and women use computers and technology when it helps them do something they want to do. it really isn't a big mystery.
-
Be serious the only thing a woman is capable of turning on is an iron ,give them a video game and they would be lost . :-D :-D :-D

It really depends on the game. :) I have difficulty tearing my girlfriend away from Puzzle Bobble, and she is STILL playing Animal Crossing. :-P
In general, a lot of women who play games enjoy puzzle games, and I'm venturing that online games will eventually attract more female players due to some of the social interaction.

Gotta agree with Red here. If you go to any Counterstrike, Quake1/2/3, UT2003, etc. IRC channel where they meet to find servers, you'll find that they are almost 100% male and in mid to late teens. Girls (and older guys) lose interest in games very quickly.
Girls often prefer simple, addictive games like tetris, and their special favourite, Windows Solitaire and Freecell!

Well, I don't know about you, but a woman can most likely turn me on...
-
My GF (commonlaw spouse, actually :-) ) likes to play on-line yatzee. Isn't that a computer game? Just because Quake isn't as popular among girls...
-
Its because they only had a sample of about 200 people!
-
It's also matter of preference of game types.. what I know women,
there are also a lot economic/war simulator players, Mushers, long
time online RPG games etc..
Simple/stupid/repeteative 3d FPS-shooters ain't any popular (= those
games KerryR mentioned) just don't work with people
havign more advanced brains :-)
Personally I'd rathe take a clever game like Pontiflex instead of yet
another gfx-altetred variant of doom-xyz..
-
I think it has more to do with how each gender defines "video games". Most women I see play Solitiare, Bejeweled, tetris, and other puzzel type games. Most men and boys I see play Quake, Unreal, Half-Life, Mechwarrior, Age of Kings, etc.
Basically, male play the more competative battle type winner takes all single or team play games. Women seem to play more noncompetative type games where they acompish a goal of some type.
Not that this is strictly how it is, just from my observations.

My wife is totally opposite that remark. She's played and beat more games than I can count on hands and feet. Duke Nukem 3D, Planet of the Babes, and Manhatten Project; Diablo 1&2, Warcraft 2&3, Dungeon Seige, Rune, Tribes, Nox just to name a few. Now she's pestering me to upgrade video hardware for Doom 3.
Games like Freecell and Solitare are never played by her. Hell, she won't even play chess with me because "there's no blood and guts!"
-
Studies like this tend to be BS, but I don't question the notion that there are many more female gamers out there than we think. Besides, I think we've just gotten too used to the idea that when a "girl" comes online, it's really just some perverted fatso in his underwear. ;-)
My sister's friend likes to fire up Doom and yell, "Die Die DIE!!!"
-
Nonsense! This is another "objective" news report where they disregard thinking, logic, and reality.

Im with you on that one. :-) :-)
