At last. At very long last, Octamed, has been updated. Please extend your thanks to Gerd Frank for producing something so quickly.
This is a fairly minor upgrade but shows how committed Gerd is.
You can download it from here. (http://www.med.uk.com/bin/OMSS_exe.lha)

Well absolutely! Thank you Gerd Frank! :-) :-) :-)
-
Also, please note that this is the executable file only and you will need to have installed the full version prior to overwriting the exe itself with the update.
The full version, if you don't already have it, is also available for download at the octamed website. (http://www.octamed.co.uk)
Thanks to Lisa at RBF for pointing this out.

I've been using Med series since version 1 and it's truly an awesome software. Not only it is the best tracker there is, it also has pretty decent MIDI support. AHI support and a fix for a few bugs are the only things I could ask for.
-
What's been added/fixed/changed with this new version?

@Hooligan,
This release apparently fixes a few bugs. AHI support will hopefully follow. It's a must.
I'm just delighted that something seems to moving forward, with regard to my favourite computer programme. :pint:
-
@John:
Not a great deal - if you download it, it contains a little text file detailing the changes.
-
:-)
Thanks, Gerd!!! Without OctaMED I may never have become an Amiga user at all...and MED still remains to be my main reason for still using my Amiga as my primary machine.
@john
What's been added/fixed/changed with this new version?
From the History file included in the archive:
"* History *
v7.09:
- code cleanup, still only SAS/C (next release possible GCC 3.x and C-only !)
- reworked build process, ...
- Compiled for 68020+, source is still mixed C and Asm
- Copyright notice changed a little bit
- some very small bugs fixed
- only executable file, no other (possible needed) stuff included!"

:-D :-D :-D
Thanks Gerd!
-edit-
Wish list, in no particular order
1) AHI support :-)
2) More assignable MIDI controllers
3) Increased depth for normal commands, eg 7-bit sample volume (would bring in line with midi too)
4) Soft synth - not necessarily realtime for 68K but can render to a sample :-)
5) PPC native version - know that will be tricky :-)

Wow! Its great to see an old Amiga program getting updated. I made my first tunes using this program but have moved onto other things as of late. I'm glad this is getting updated. Three cheers for Gerd!!
-
Gerd is an OS 4 betatester so I hope we will see an OS 4 version in the not too distant future.
Keep up the good work Gerd!
-
@Zadoc:
Without OctaMED I may never have become an Amiga user at all..
In my case there's no maybe about it - I would *never* have been interested in the Amiga, had I not been given a demo of Octamed.
That's why this news makes me so happy. :-)
-
This is news i like to see, wow! :-o
Didnt think i'd hear about any releases so soon on the best tracker program bar none
I Look forward to future releases and possible OS4 support.
Cheers.

Well, to untie it from the old legacy Amigas will be essential if they are serious about this as an effort for the future!
/me is hoping for future support for all three "NG" OS distributions! I wonder if Gerd has a Pegasos? I really think he should have one! ;-)
-
Well done Gerd! :-)
-
big ups!!! big ups!!!
i never thought this would happen, but it did! =)
oh.. here goes my wishlist.
1. AHI support
2. PPC support
3. VST plugin support =)
I suspect a ppc version is already planned as you are
moving the code to GCC? =) SWEEEET!
-
oh.. here goes my wishlist.
Speaking about wishlists, mine is that it will follow the Open Amiga Standard in the future:

:-)

Please stay on topic, grandma--take your proselytizing somewhere else.
Back to Octamed, I'm so happy to see development still in the works. Thank you so much, Gerd. I don't think I'd be a music composition student had I not found Med 3 on Aminet as a kid. Can't wait to run it under AmigaOS 4 on my new AmigaOne!
-
There are some major bugs in OSS that IMHO would need to be addressed to make it much more usable, see my comment here:
http://amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2091
I hope that they wouldn't require a major rewrite of the program :-(
Anyway, thanks for your work! :-)

about OpenAmiga...
Why it has to be CGX "FOUR" compatible eh? Picasso96 is not CGX4 comaptible, it is compatible qith CGX 3... Reaction can be installed from a OS3.5/3.9 from MorphOS, can't it? There are already P96 emulators for CGX...
The idea is not bad... but forcing people who don't like MUI to use MUI is not a good idea (same the opposite) on the other hand reinventing the wheel wouldn't have much sense...
-
I just used this to edit a module (MMD3) of mine.
After saving, the module would not load into any
tracker or player. The module is corrupt.
I've been working on this for months, although it's my own stupidity which has excluded it from backups.
Anyway: this appears to be broken. Can anyone else confirm this?

What the hell is your problem? Here's a little tip, before you post, think about what you are trying to say.
I too would like OctaMED to follow the OpenAmiga developer guidlines, that way I can run it on what ever system I choose.
-
Without enteriing into parallel discussions, all thumbs up to this!!! Nice. 8-)
-
@Ben I hope so too, but it's great to see an update anyway, even though I haven't used OctaMED for years. I've installed the new version which may encourage me to play with it again.
Thanks Gerd!

Yeah, I've done the same thing! Great to see the ol
girl get a little massage goin on. Keeps us in tune with
the esentials rather than smothering with useless gimmick effects.
Thanks Gerd!! OctaMED - Solid/Stable/Proven.
